Dia del Trabajo (1 May) Public Holiday - Sunday
Labor Day (Día del Trabajo), also known as May Day (Primero de Mayo), is a public holiday in Mexico on Sunday May 1.
Since this particular Mexican holiday falls on a Sunday (a non-working day), do gardeners, housekeepers and other staff observe the day on Monday in order to get a paid day off work?

It actually is a communist holiday Labor day and women s day , we celebrate the same in France. It is also the day we offer each other lily of the valley,,,
Here on the 3rd I believe is the Day of the Cross followed by Cinquo de Mayo which is also a paid holiday.. When are they celebrating it? The Following Monday or Friday or the previous Monday?

5 de Mayo is not a paid holiday.

The “staff” do not decide what day they observe a holiday on “in order to get a paid day off.” The government mandates when the holiday will be observed. I guess they do that in order that hard working folks actually have a day of rest with pay which is the intent of the holidays.

From Wiki
Statutory holidays
Statutory holidays (referred as "feriados" or "días de asueto" in Mexico) are legislated through the federal government and ruled by the Federal Labor Law (Ley Federal del Trabajo).[1] Most workers, public and private, are entitled to take the day off with regular pay. However, some employers may require employees to work on such a holiday, but the employee must be paid:
the regular pay for the statutory holiday if no work is performed by the employee, and
the regular pay and two additional daily salary rates if work is performed by the employee, for a total of triple the usual rate.
When a statutory holiday falls on a Sunday, Monday is considered a statutory holiday; if a statutory holiday falls on Saturday, Friday will be considered a statutory holiday.
