Renew driver’s license…

Where in Chapala do you do this? Just discovered mine is long expired so I need to get it done ASAP.

Here's link to map to office.  Last year they required appointments, but I believe they now allow walk-in service.  Of course with the Easter holidays, expect closures.  Their hours are listed as 9 to 3.

I renewed mine a couple of weeks ago. You can still get an appointment however they didn't ask for my appointment information when I arrived there. I just got in line with everyone else. They are very picky about the paperwork, especially the proof of address. Take the original and two copies of everything. Be sure your proof of address is a recent bill. CFE is the best if its in your name.

Can you pay for the renewal there or do you have to prepay at a bank?  U have a Chofer license what will be the renewal amount?

You have to pay in advance. If you apply for an appointment online they send you an email with your appointment day/time and a link to print an invoice which you can pay at OXXO, etc. You need to pay at least 3 days in advance and take your proof of payment with you.

On proof of address, if you're using TelMex you need original and copies of the entire bill...including all those useless extra pages.  

On CFE we took our last bill which was almost 2 months old (bi-monthly billing) and they argued it was too old.  In the end they accepted it, but it seemed like they were hell-bent on rejecting us.  

I had also brought our house deed and they accepted that in lieu of the front page of the TelMex bill.

Should print of copies be color or black and white.

Always, always, always black and white.  Otherwise, color is considered an attempt to counterfeit a document.

Is my face red! When I checked my license I had my thumb over the 2nd date which is the expiration date and just read the first one so I don’t need to renew until May, 2023. Good info on this thread though for those who do need it now. Thanks!

What will suffice for a Proof of Address for a renter?

Perhaps a copy of your rental agreement or a bank account statement with your address would be accepted. Another way is to obtain a "contancia se domicilio" (proof of residence) from the municipality where you live.

I'd stop by and ask at Chapala office, once they reopen after Easter. They are very PICKY.
