Laser Printer
Our inkjet printer bit the dust. Tired of replacing expensive cartridges so we're interested in going laser, but not familiar with them.
Besides price, are there any other negative factors I should be aware.
If you have any to recommend (or one that you hate), please share info.
If you bought one recently locally or via AMZN, are you happy with it?
Would probably go to B&W for our needs; but definitely want a wireless model.
Gracias in advance!

Re: Laser Printer
I have no negatives about HP Laser Printers. I bought my first one in 1989 and it was the Laserjet III. Absolute workhorse and I have never had anything go wrong with them EVER. The first one lasted fourteen years and I replaced it with an inkjet. That P.O.S lasted one year. Then I bought a Brother Laserjet which was a piece of junk. So, I'm now on my second HP Laserjet and it's a youngster at 8 years old. I bought it at Office Depot in Guadalajara.
They have a couple of HP wireless multifunctional versions available... multifunctional as in does more than just print... print, copy, scan and/or fax. Mine does not do faxes but, if you need that function, you just need it.
I like the first one here because there's no way for the dust to get in AND it has the cool new rechargeable toner syringe...pricey though.

This second one has the old fashioned toner (aka having to replace the whole thing). Do remember that this type of toner is clean and simple to change out (which doesn't happen very often). I do NOT buy official HP toners. I buy from Amazon.com and they work just fine. This is similar to what I have and the TOP of the printer is a major dust magnet.

Re: Laser Printer
I got a Samsung Xpress C460W at Office Depot a few years ago. It's also a scanner/copier and has WiFi. Comes with nearly empty colour and black ink cartridges that you have to replace before a lot of use but it does a good job.

Re: Laser Printer
Most laser printers are workhorses. I have the Brother one and it is going on 10+ years with no issues. It is a basic laser with no frills, as all I did was print invoices for my computer business with it. Any brand can have a lemon in the bunch, including HP.
What features do you need? That would be my first question. Network capable? Color? Scanning capable? Sings and dances?
Shop it on Amazon and see what the deals are. Also, find out the cost of replacement toner cartridges for whatever model you are looking at as you have to replace them at some point in time. You do not want to get a good deal on the printer and find out the cartridges are way too expensive.

Re: Laser Printer
My HP is fine and reliable. What i want is a laser printer that can try to access several different servers if one is down. Not unusual in Lakeside.
Cheers,
Michael

Re: Laser Printer
Laser printer accessing servers? I don't understand that statement.

I don't either. A wireless printer uses the wifi that the computer is using.

Re: Laser Printer
Ok. My printer is connected to my TotalPlay account, as is my laptop. But if Totalplay is out or cranky, my laptop finds my server, viz., Wizz, that is working. In order to move my printer to Wizz, I need to go in and fiddle with terrible passwords. So, wouldn't it be nice if the printer could do what my laptop or phone does. Hope that makes my post clear.
Re: Laser Printer
Gotcha. I understand now. Therein lies a good reason to have a printer that just connects to your computer via a usb port. They're cheaper too.

Re: Laser Printer
Well, given that the main thing I used it for is printing out the crosswords from the Toronto papers from my iPad it would be tricky. But it is a thought.

There's always a work around... https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-connect-usb-devices-to-ipad-1999862
I have found Steren's to be the place to check for various adapters. Invariably they can find one. I now have a USB to HDMI adapter because this laptop came without an HDMI port. I also have a USB to ethernet adapter because this laptop lacks an ethernet port. Seek and ye shall find.

Re: Laser Printer
So I asked google this morning "is it possible to use a usb connection on a wireless printer". Yup. But suggests you check the manual of the printer to make sure.

Re: Laser Printer
Airprint is what I use. The catch is that the iPad and printer must be on the same wifi network.

Maybe this will help... scroll down to the last heading which is "How to Manually Connect to a Network on iPhone or iPad"
