Lobo de Mar in Ajijic
Oh how I missed this place for the past 2 month--super food and many items with low calories, high flavor profiles.
In our top 3 eateries for several years. It is on east side of Calle Javier Mina just south of the carretera. Just below Gossips, opposite side of street. https://www.facebook.com/lobodemarmariscos/
Their prices have also gone up, but remains very reasonable. They provide each table with various condiments (pickled onions, cole slaw, pico de gallo) as well as 2 cremas (cilantro and chipotle) and bottled salsas. They also give you a short jar of a homemade salsa (which you need to stir) that is Asian-y y muy picante!
Lunch today (we each get 2 items as they are single tacos or tostadas are not meals in and of themselves):
Taco de Arrachera de Atún (quick seared tuna over their grill..tastes like steak!).
Tostada de Tiradito de Atún (Asian inspired tuna crudo).
Taco de Chile Guerrero de Marlin (huge banana pepper filled with tender smoked marlin, battered and deep-fried...note, this is not a low calorie dish!).
Tostada de Ceviche de Pescado: always made fresh with excellent fish (also available with shrimp).
Total for the above plus one aqua mineral and one Negra Modelo was 294p.
Special thx to my partner who, one month since hip replacement (at SATH) is able to make these longer uphill treks to eateries once again.

Sounds great. The new Baja Norte on the carreterra across from OXXO has some really good seafood too.

Pan fried oysters, occasionally, appear on the specials board. Fantastic!

Back to Lobo.
The tenderest tuna at lakeside! One is tiradito, with a bit of seaweed, avocado, cucumber, sesame seeds over a tostada. The other is arrechera and just like the name indicates, is briefly grilled over charcoal. Tastes like steak, but without all those saturated fats.
One of their specials is almejas chocolates, chocolate clams. Hmmm. I had to google that one...turns our "chocolate" clams are a Mexican delicacy so named from color of the shell. Read about them here, https://www.saveur.com/mexicos-chocolate-clams-are-worth-trip/
The clams were served as a full meal with rice, shrimp and scallops in a wonderfully rich cream sauce.

Hamburguesa de camarones (shrimp) today. It's a nice one, and with all the condiments they bring to your table you can have a lot of fun with it. Also a good bun that didn't fall apart.
fyi, years ago ALL the local burger buns fell apart. Recently noticed better buns at a few places, so maybe they are using a new wholesale bakery?? The one here and the one yesterday at Cafe' 4 Staciones seemed more like brioche. Beats Bimbo by a mile!

Oh I got confused, the new restaurant where the Italian restaurant used to be has dirt floors, not this one, which I go to regular, fabulous food...And really nice friendly staff and owner

Re: Lobo de Mar in Ajijic
That restaurant is Baja Norte and they are sand floors. They are going for the beach vibe.

As Bob pointed out the one with la playa is Baja Norte. However not all of the flooring is sand, only the room facing the carretera is sand (which they maintain nicely).
If you enter through their lower driveway gate (on Galeana) you can avoid the sand altogether and sit in either the bar area or off to the side of it; those floors are not sand-covered.
Or you can walk through the sand from the carretera and make your way to tables in the non-beach seating areas.

Re: Lobo de Mar in Ajijic
Back to Lobo...best tuna in town along with fresh condiments for each table.
Dishes top to bottom:
Condiment tray (you also get cremas de chipotle y de aguacate, plus bottled hot sauces)
Aguachile de camarones
Tuna Tiradito
Tuna Arrachera (tastes like steak, but silky tender)
Deep fried Banana pepper stuffed with smoked marlin.
Shown 'naked' these tacos, etc. are extra-special once you add the condiments of your choice.
These 4 dishes plus una cerveza y agua mineral came to 307p.

Claudia is a culinary artiste.. Tuna is my favorite, then yellowtail.. Had some H-E-B sushi on my last trip to tejas, but the fish really comes alive with a flash broil.. Thx for the pics/ inspired to make the trek next week..

Bisbee,
For the 5 years I spent in the bread business (Sunbeam), a hamburger between two sheets of paper would beat Bimbo.

Usually this is where we go for seared tuna tacos and fish ceviche.
But they had some holiday specials and we tried them. Both spectacular!
Seafood Pozole with shrimp, clams, fish, mussels and calamari rings. Great cooking as none of the seafood was overcooked (and they all have different cooking times).
The Shrimp Over Plantains was equally great--the plantain patties under the shrimp were soft and creamy. A very creative dish.
