More rain than usual this year?
I'm not much of a weather watcher, but it seems like we've had a LOT of rain this year. It doesn't seem like we've had very many really dramatic storms and deluges, just good solid steady rainfall. (I'm not complaining, it's a good thing.) I used to have a site I'd check once in a while to see how it's going, but that guy moved away a few years ago.) So for any of you weather gurus, have we had more inches of rain this year than average? Or is this another normal year? Just curious. Thanks.

Check out the local weather stations. They show that we have had a great deal more rain, year-to-date, than usual.

Average in total but 2015, 2016 and 2010 were higher.
This is the new page for Ajijic weather (located in Rancho del Oro)...

This is the historical rain chart on it...

Thanks. We've already reached the average for the entire year, with part of September and all of October to go. We might even reach 40 inches. Wet!

Here's another site to which I was just introduced. I am finding it more accurate than Ventusky.com but it's still not exact... then again nothing really is. And it just started to rain again in Riberas. Still better than winters in Vancouver though.

The average for the year since 1940 has been 32 inches. So far this year year we are about 5% above the average. As Tony Burton has pointed put we had 77 inches in 1941.Rosa Venus wrote:Thanks. Year to date we have had about 5% more than usual. 33.5 inches was the yearly average at the Riberas weather station.MexicoPete wrote:Check out the local weather stations. They show that we have had a great deal more rain, year-to-date, than usual.

I'd agree with that Brigitte. I used to say living here was like Camelot... "the rain, it never falls 'til after sundown. By eight, the morning fog must disappear. In all there's simply not, a more congenial spot, for happy ever aftering than here. in. Camelot (Ajijic)."
Yup. Cloud over in late afternoon, rain at night and sun by eight a.m. is more normal for here.

Re: More rain than usual this year?
I think we are experiencing climate change like many other parts of the world. Fortunately our change seems to be cooler weather and more rain unlike the whole west coast of the US and Canada who are experiencing extreme heat, fires and drought in the summer and colder than usual during the winter.

I don’t think they have opened the dams upriver yet. That always bumps the lake up.

Yes they have. The lirio has been seen for about a month or so.

I have missed the lirio. We have a full lake view, but we still only see the part of the lake we see. We are getting a lot of rain right now so maybe the lake will rise a little more.

I'm sure it will. Seems to be the biggest rain of the year today.

Thanks for the photos CG! I have been in communication with people who are just east of Joco. We usually go as a group to Adelita's on Tuesdays for lunch. Not today. And I thought it was bad here. Wow!

The Tuesday market is going to suffer. Rumours are that they won't open, but I don't know how anyone would get that news.
The smaller photo is from a video clip, but I can't post videos here.

The word is the most severely hit was from La Lucerna to San Juan Cosala. I just talked to a friend in La Cantacita and they are flooded and cannot get out due to the debris around their house. Everyone stay safe!! Not a good time to be out driving to check things out, for sure!

I find it hard to believe that the Racquet Club has been hit by a tromba twice in the last 10 years or so, but nowhere else. Lots of mountain side construction is done sloppily and with no regard for arroyos.

Re: More rain than usual this year?
It probably was not a tromba in the RC either tme just heavy rains and clogged arroyos coming unclogged.Luisa wrote:I find it hard to believe that the Racquet Club has been hit by a tromba twice in the last 10 years or so, but nowhere else.
