Because I just purchased a new home with the name of the house in the old owners name, Casa ----, if it is bad luck to change the name of the casa ? He referred to an article he had read about changing names is bad luck. Like some sailors say don't change the name of the boat or you will have problems with the boat.

Do Mexicans believe in this or it just doesn't matter ?

Ask the local Father. Maybe he can come and bless the new name..
Unrelated but once we had an area in front of our house that neighbors would always throw trash into. We got a portrait of the virgin and put it in the corner. Never had trash again.

Take the name down and don't replace it with a new name. That should even out the luck. (Good luck to you)

Never heard that one. Lots of properties change names when sold.

There is a name changing ceremony that is used when changing the same of a sailing vessel. It includes much libation. Maybe there is the same for a house.

...And of course there'd be a little problem if "Casa Jones" were bought by the Smith family, si?

If it is a historical alndmark , it is one thing otherwise just change the name. If the name was important you would know it or the neighbors would know.
it is not like in the Basque country were the name of the town or the houses became sometimes the last name of the family and were used as addresses when people did not move much.
