Best Emergency Room... SAT, Riberas or Ajijic Hospital
8 months in Lakeside and have never needed (or visited a Doctor). I may have a need to visit a local ER to assist with a burst hemroid issue if I can't get control of it and I will be Self-Paying since my Medigap won't cover me here after 60 days away from the States.
Of course I know SAT Hospital but the google reviews are all over the place? Riberas Hospital is new but don't show enough reviews for a sample to be very accurate; and Hospital Ajijic has a solid reputation and good reviews but I don't hear about it often?
Besides having a Doctor who could have referred me (yes, I messed up by not establishing a relationship sooner) suggestions and opinions appreciated. Embarassed but TIA.

You can go to the Ajijic Clinic and see an on staff doctor for about $400p. The hospitals will be at least double that. I currently use Dra. Anna Flores (internist) at Quality care. She charges $900 pesos for a visit. I also use Dr. Hernández at Chapala Med. His prices are about the same.

SA Hospital and Ajijic Clinic are both good but the hospital offers more services than the the clinic and is more expensive.
Riberas Hospital hasn´t been open long so that is the reason for little comment, whereas the SA Hospital has now been open 2 years.
It depends on what the procedures will be, but either the Ajijic Clinic or the SA Hospital are well run facilities.

Re: Best Emergency Room... SAT, Riberas or Ajijic Hospital
The husband of my wives friend recently had a stroke. They went to SAT hospital and were appalled by the service and price. They are now getting treatment at Riberas Hospital. So far they are pleased with the service.
According to many reports the SAT Hospital has sure taken a turn for the worse. I was there for a few days 2 years ago and was quite pleased with the service. It's really too bad.

I've had the misfortune of having to go to SAT Hospital back in 2020 for an emergency. Had to spend the night and had various tests done, more were being "strongly suggested" for me and an extension on the duration of my stay. I was appreciate that I did have the service available at the time, however I got out ASAP and will ensure that I won't ever be going back.

I used SAT emergency services in March this year and have no criticism of the facilities or care. They willingly and easily coordinated with my Quality Care doctors and quite possibly saved my life.
Can't comment on the other hospital as I've never used it.

Ajijic Hospital Clinic shackles its door outside normal business hours. Despite loud banging on glass door, no one ever shows up. Happened a few years ago, and again just 2 weeks ago. Hospital in name only IMO.
RMC---had horrible experience there in July. It was non-emergency, but will never set foot in it again.
HSAT--used ER a year ago and got prompt attention. Between the 2 of us, we've had 4 surgeries there in past 2 years. Professional and competent services and staff. Excellent doctors on staff.

If most of you have ever used a real hospital in Guadalajara, or CDMX, or Morelia, then you know how poor the care truly is, Lakeside. I was recently in a hospital in one of those cities. Immediately in an urgent care bed, later transferred to a private room. The nurses had to have a minimum of 4 years nursing school, many had extended education. The place was an architectural palace and the cleanest thing I've ever seen, and the care lived up to and exceeded the building. State of the art equipment, not bought used, like some 'hospitals' have. Actual urgent care doctors, private nurse, and they come within 15 seconds each and every time you push the call button. Extensive triage work up, more detail than I've ever experienced, from what my symptoms were, my occupations, to how many pets I had and everything in between, and then all testing based off the answers, and more. Testing every 20 minutes all day and night, plus multiple blood work ups. CT scan, echocardiogram, chest X-ray, countess EKGs, cardio and pulmonary specialists on a Sunday, and meals custom prepared to my liking...best care I've ever had...the bill? Just under $45,000 pesos. I know people who spent more than that for far far less quality care and services, at SAT.

If you are not bi lingual remember to arrive prepared with an advocate who is bi lingual. Most problems will not be an issue if you can communicate.

Re: Best Emergency Room... SAT, Riberas or Ajijic Hospital
@kiri Not sure what your point is. That Lakeside residents should head to Guadalajara when they have a true life-threatening emergency??
If you have chest pains late in the evening and unable to drive yourself nor have an immediate means of transport to downtown Guadalajara who happens to know where the GDL hospitals are, and have a translator to hop in the car with you, it'll be hours before you make to an ER in Guad.
We had a similar experience to yours at Hospital SAT. Hospital bill of 43K pesos that included immediate ER treatment, then moved to private room for 3 days of continued constant monitoring and testing and treatment. Met with a variety of specialists who came from Guad despite it being a national holiday.
Specialists billed us separately but none of the bills were out of the norm based on other treatments and surgeries (4 between us) we have had here.

Re: Best Emergency Room... SAT, Riberas or Ajijic Hospital
imho, the first line of defense is your local GP. They have your history and know the medications that you're taking and any specialists that you've been seeing. Hopefully they will be your first call to inform them of which emergency room you are heading for and will meet you there. They are also the FIRST person to be called if anyone should find you have passed away. Their contact information should be stuck to your fridge!!!
I cannot stress the importance of having a GP enough and especially if you live alone!!!

This posting is dated but for bleeding hemorrhoids an office visit to the local proctologist would suffice.
