Good article. What wasn't specified is whether or not the "before bed" aspect was a definite time in the evening to take it. Bedtimes can vary greatly.

I understood it to mean, when you are about to go to sleep.ferret wrote:Good article. What wasn't specified is whether or not the "before bed" aspect was a definite time in the evening to take it. Bedtimes can vary greatly.

But you agree that "about to go to sleep" can vary by several hours? And consistency of the timing of the med to be taken is the most important. I have a very consistent bedtime... 11 pm. so it works for me. Others may be very different.

This has been the recommendation for years, possibly just more people getting on the band wagon. YMMV but it works for me.

"Study participants were randomly assigned to take all of their blood pressure pills just once a day, either in the morning or at bedtime." Another point sited was consistency.
I can see the logic. I was told to take them at bedtime, partly because that's the body's repair time, but also because in the morning it can make you feel odd in various ways.

My Doc, perhaps a year ago changed the time I take my high blood pressure. I take 1/2 my medical dose for HP in the morning and the remaining 1/2 of my dose, I take in the evening. Now I understand why :)

When I first saw similar studies I did an "experiment" I had been taking my BP meds in the am. I switched to bedtime and was able to half them with the same results. So I take mine when I go to bed (about 9-10pm).
