Activar el “Buzón Tributario” del SAT

I received an official-looking e-mail message instructing me to activate my Tax Mailbox (Buzón Tributario) in order to receive electronic notifications from the SAT Tax Administration Service.  Is anyone familiar with this requirement? Just want to make sure it's legitimate.

Never seen it. Do you have a business or employment that requires you to pay taxes?

CanuckBob -- No, I have no tax-related activities in Mexico. I do have a non-interest bearing checking account at Multiva.

I received the same email notice..I have no Mexico investment accounts or interest bearing accounts..Been here over 30 years, back in the U.S. presently..What is the deal?

I'm being told it's a way to register online for depositing cheques in Mexican banks, which is now obligatory.

Did any banks respond?

I received one as well. In my letter they referenced my CURP number. That's why I thought it might be official.

The curious thing is that the letter wants you to activate an email box, but the do not provide a link to a page where you could do that. So I have not responded yet and remain suspicious.

Sending to everybody, really only those who are working or who have sold a home and exempted capital gains need to have their password and logins.

I have not received one however I am already registered with all the tax agencies for business purposes.
