There are several different brands and types of mayonnaise made in Mexico, available locally in the Chapala area.
You can even purchase Miracle Whip at several stores, don´t know where it is made.

I've seen it (from time to time) at SuperLake.

Have not seen it at Pancho's, but he is always good for the asking. Potentially Mi Ranchito cremeria in Chapala behind the market.

I saw it at one of the 3 stores you mentioned in your post in the last 2 weeks.  Whether it is made in Mexico or shipped in from the US, I have no idea.

It's a US product. I finally found pint jars at Pancho's but he wanted 89 pesos. I bought it because I'm desperate. But I will use it sparingly for that price. A few years ago saw it at SL for 190 a quart. I about had a heart attack right there in the aisle. My spring trip to Texas for shopping will include MW, obviously.

A few years back, when I was still hooked on Kraft mayonnaise, I asked Pancho to bring it in. He showed me one day: litre jars of Miracle Whip, fat-free. Yech. Since then, Soriana carries Kraft mayo quite frequently, but again usually fat free. Not the same.

That´s reason enough to buy it (desparate lol), and it´s an elective and not a mandatory purchase item.

It´s a Kraft product which produces all sorts of products in Mexico, including Heinz Ketchup.  Are you sure they don´t produce Miracle Whip mayo here?

What´s the difference? If they are/were both Kraft Miracle Whip?
"Fat free"?...…..That's the reason Miracle Whip came about in the first place, was to be a lower calorie, cheaper recipe than what was the standard mayonnaise recipe at the time.

Actually, the two are very far apart in terms of taste. Kraft mayo is just mayo, whereas Miracle Whip was created to be a cheap "salad dressing". If you've ever had Crosse & Blackwell's salad dressing or "salad cream", you'll know it is much sweeter than mayo. Miracle Whip is a lot sweeter than mayo. It always had less oil, but of course all things American have to eventually become "fat free".

"Bring out the Hellman's and bring out the best". My preference is Hellman's Light. I actually bought some Miracle Whip in a fit of nostalgia when I saw it in SuperLake. My taste buds have changed and I ended up giving it away.

CG is right; most love one and hate the other. Growing up, families stocked one or the other. I learned quickly to decline the offer of a tuna fish sandwich from a Miracle Whip household. Yuk!

My preference is Hellman's mayo (aka Best Foods in western states). The Hellman's I buy here is Hecho en Mexico and seems sweeter than the US recipe. Would be interesting to taste-test, side by side.

That's right! I had forgotten. Some of my school chums used Miracle Whip at home; I too avoided tuna sangwidges at their place.

I had a similar experience with one friend who ate Miracle Whip tuna sandwiches and Hydrox cookies. Hydrox is to Oreo what Miracle Whip is to Best Foods.

I like the lime in Hellman's. I like both lime and vinegar and will be trying this recipe...

I had to adjust my caesar salad dressing when I moved to Mexico and add lime juice instead of lemon juice. Works fine and I've never had any complaints when serving it, only rave reviews. Each to his/her own (tastebuds).

I find the Hellman's original formula mayo to be just right. Frankly, I don't understand the fondness for Miracle Whip. Rolling Eyes

I was raised on Miracle Whip. I love it for it's tangy-ness and really don't like the eggy taste of mayo.

The two unopened jars I have are labeled "classico" and do not mention lime nor have the ubiquitous lime wedge seen on most mayo jar labels here.  I prefer the ones with lime, actually.

It seems the critical element is “I was raised on Miracle Whip.” Doesn’t seem to matter whether it is MW or mayonnaise. Whichever one we ate as kids is the one we prefer. There may be some adults who switch allegiance but I am guessing not many.

You're right about "what we were raised with". My mom despised margarine as well as any other item that was supposed to replace the "real thing". I bought into that.

Yeah, me too. Was raised on BF Mayo can't eat MW, contains high fructose corn syrup. Nasty.
No lime in my Clasico Hellmans either. But it does taste a little different than BF to me. I know it is reported to be same recipe.

I agree, as our taste buds seem to have excellent memory circuits to the brain, and our flavor recall can be quite accurate; even after many decades.
On the margarine: Some of us had no choice, as "the real thing" was heavily rationed during WWII. We got early margarine in plastic bags, with a yellow capsule enclosed. Once it was warm enough, we kids had the job of squeezing the capsule to release the dye into the white margarine, and then massaging the bag to mix the color uniformly. It tasted like margarine, and I was glad when butter returned to the table.

I seem to recall that margarine was sold white in those days so no one could rip off the public passing it off as butter.
