Diana Kennedy New Documentary
Read about it in WaPo. If anyone sees where this is available to watch or (preferably) download, please post. I had the pleasure of meeting her in 2010 here in Ajijic. She's now 97 years old and as feisty as ever. The article (not sure if non-subscribers can open), does not indicate a source for seeing the film.

Some may be skeptical of her prominence. “How can it be that a white British woman knows more about Mexican food than anybody else?” Frances McCullough, her Harper & Row editor, asks just minutes into “Diana Kennedy: Nothing Fancy,” debut director Elizabeth Carroll’s recent documentary. The question points to a tension that has roiled beneath the surface of Kennedy’s public image. The film searches for an answer.
Available on demand as of June 19, “Diana Kennedy: Nothing Fancy” has generated near-unanimous praise since its premiere at South by Southwest in 2019. The film won Special Jury Recognition for Excellence in Storytelling at the festival, and it recently received a James Beard nomination. The film has also provoked some dissent from some reviewers for presenting an antiseptic portrait of Kennedy, smoothing over the complications of her legacy.
The film functions as a tender character study of Kennedy in the twilight of her life. Kennedy, who lives off the grid near Zitácuaro in the state of Michoacán, cares little about being liked. Her passions are still blazing, her rules still inflexible: No garlic or kosher salt in your guacamole, for example. She has a moral impetus to preserve the environment, wanting to ensure a just future when she’s no longer around. In one scene, she brags that she once sent an American food magazine 30 corrections for an issue with enchiladas on the cover. The sequence doubles as a reckoning with her mortality. “What are you going to do when I’m gone?” she asks. “Who is else going to start screaming? Nobody!”

Thanks, but it wanted my cc number, even though they said they wouldn't charge it. Said they needed cc to verify my mailing address as they are not allowed to distribute content in certain countries.
I'll pass on this one. But again thanks.

The world needs more people like Diana Kennedy. I used to frequent Fonda San Miguel in Austin, Tx for many years. She was involved somewhat with the original owners many years ago and the food was beyond your dreams. Sadly, over time, changes came with success and IMHO it sort of went downhill a bit. Have not eaten there in probably 20 years, but then who knows about today? I suppose it is still there,

Nice tribute to Diana; it's just under 90 minutes. She's 97 now, this was filmed 2 years ago and fun to watch her drive her stick-shift truck around Michoacan. Footage at various markets around Mexico, her off-the-grid home in Zitacuaro. Old footage and pics of Mexico from when she first came here (late 50s).
We downloaded it at Amazon Video Prime, cost was about 7 bucks. Well worth it!

The DVD will be released on 23 June. I ordered from Amazon for $13.99. Ebay also had it at a little higher price.

A MASTERPIECE! Loved every single minute if it - now I will buy it to watch whenever for inspiration. Been an admirer of her since the eighties when I cooked professionally and collected her books and hung on every word she, Alice Waters, Jeremiah Tower, Rick Bayless and so on uttered.
She caught my attention way back when she was building her house in the boonies of Michoacan and the builders came to her and said: Señora we have a problem! There are three enormous boulders in the way. Diana Kennedy said: Build the house around them!
Best line in the documentary: Give me a long beach, I love to walk, and a 5 Star restaurant at the end of it!
