Giving up Car?
Rolly says in his immigration manual "You will need to give up your foreign-plated car after you achieve one of the two options (citizenship or inmigrado). If you achieve either option, you will never have to deal with INM again, but your car must go away. "
Is there any way around this? I'm sure my wife will baulk at getting rid of her jeep. We intend to have it for at least another 200,000 Miles. Also, what exactly does this mean, selling it in Mexico or driving it back to the US and getting rid of it there? Thanks,

I believe when you are inmigrado (landed immigrant) you are not allowed to own/operate a foreign registered/plated vehicle in Mexico. You can "nationalize" the car but I understand that can be expensive.
Re: Giving up Car?
I remember Spencer saying that he had finally nationalized his car. What is involved and what are the costs? The jeep is 6 years old and here is probably only worth 5-6K. But for us, it would be worth paying a couple of thousand to keep it rather than getting rid of it. I am kind of anal about maintaining our vehicles and it is as good as the day it was bought and only has 80K miles on it ( barely broken in)

Talk to Spencer aka Intercasa. Remember, it takes 5 years to achieve inmigrado, so no hurry.

Re: Giving up Car?
From Rolly's information, I had the impression that you had to this when you received your FM3. If not , no worries. My misunderstanding. Thanks.

Nationalizing will run around $2,000US. Plan on that and if not worth it then sell it NOB or junk it.

You seriously misread what I wrote. From Rolly's information, I had the impression that you had to this when you received your FM3.
Re: Giving up Car?
What intercasa failed to mention is in order to nationalize from the interior you will need to turn over the title of your vehicle and around 1000usd to a stranger do this.
