This if from a property management business in our area with a trove of new information concerning the virus issues we are all dealing with. The updates of what our government and medical folk are doing is invaluable. The next of the memo follows:
Just wanted to pass along some information to make sure you are aware of the current situation of the coronavirus here in Mexico, specifically here at Lakeside. We were in shock to find out that so many Americans and Canadians were not even aware of the Governor of Jalisco announcement last Friday asking for a 5-day lock-down…. That we thought maybe it is best to let you know when we have local information available.
You are probably aware but it is official that as of this morning, Tuesday, March 24th, it was announced that we now have the first positive case of COVID-19 here at Lakeside. An ex-pat from San Juan Cosala (who travelled to Colorado for a ski trip). As we know, the person is in the Jocotepec hospital and that there are a number of other suspected cases that are currently being analyzed. It is said that the local municipal government of Jocotepec will be making some announcements later today about new measures such as closing the malecon in Jocotepec, etc.
Here in Mexico, the President announced this morning at 7 a.m., that Mexico is now in the Phase II of the spread of the virus. What does this mean? It means that the virus is now spreading amongst local people, not necessarily a person that recently travelled to a country where the virus is present or has been exposed to a person who recently travelled to a country where the virus is present. The bottom line is that now any of us can catch the virus. There are currently 367 coronavirus cases in Mexico (this is as of 7 p.m. March 23rd). The Federal Government announces every day at 7 p.m. the update/status of cases. There are 4 death so far and currently there are over 850 cases that as suspected and currently being analyzed. The Level II is also directly more specifically at ANYONE OVER THE AGE OF 60 and ANY PREGNANT WOMAN, anyone over 60 that has a heart problem, chronic disease or diabetic as well as any pregnant woman is ASKED TO STAY HOME. All bars, casino, theatres, public parks, zoos, etc. should now be closed. Restaurants are asked to downsize the limit of people and opt for home delivery or take-out. The President also announced this morning that the Armed Forces will also be opening all of its facilities and availability of medical staff to the entire population of Mexico.
The Federal Government also announced yesterday, March 23 a new program called SUSANA DISTANCIA. That all people should keep a distance of 1.5 to 1.8 meters amongst each other when out in public (or approx. 5 feet). People are also asked to limit their level of social activity and when you have to be in any social activities to respect the distance. You will be seeing more and more of these measures when you go to grocery stores, etc. Most banks have already reduced or limited their services and more NON-ESSENTIAL services will be closed.
The GOVERNOR OF JALISCO yesterday announced that the airport of Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta are closed to any flights coming from a country/state/province that have closures due to the virus, that means such places as Canada, Europe, California, New York, Washington, Argentina, El Salvador, Guatemala and many other south American destinations. The Consulates of Canada in Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta as well as the U.S. Consulate in Guadalajara are CLOSED. All Canadians and Americans wishing to return back home are to contact their respective Embassies in Mexico City or on-line. The Governor of Jalisco will also be meeting on Thursday of this week with the surrounding 5 states to seek cooperation with them to seek the same level of responsibility or to seek ways to close access to Jalisco. The 5-day lock-down asked by the Governor of Jalisco last Friday, which was voluntary, is based on a study completed by the University of Guadalajara to show the effectiveness in the limit of spreading the virus in that time period. Hopefully you were all supportive and continue to stay home unless really necessary to go out for food or medical reasons. Out of the 4 deaths in Mexico, one of them was here in Guadalajara, a 55 year old man. On Thursday of this week, the Governor of Jalisco will also be announcing the protocol of fast testing.... these are testing kits that Jalisco has purchased (5,000 kits and he has requested to have up to 20,000 kits). He will be announcing on Thursday, the who, where and how one can be tested (these fast tests give results in 45 minutes). If one tests positive, then you will have to get the 2nd test. We have to remember that from the 45 current cases here in Jalisco, 4 of them the person does not have any signs. So you could be a provider and easily be spreading the virus without knowing.
For us, XXX Property Management, we continue the coordination of our services…. From a distance! We have as much as possible given masks and gloves to the maids, gardeners and pool maintenance providers of your homes. We have now informed all of them about the distance to be kept amongst everyone…. This is nothing personal, we all want to stay healthy! In some cases, these service providers have asked us not to work, especially in the requested 5-day period by the Governor of Jalisco, and we have respected that and thank you all for supporting this as well.
For those of you, now that we are in PHASE II, please inform us of your wishes should you not want the maid, gardener or pool guys to show. In some of the homes, we have already talked with some of the homeowners or renters to reduce the service (even some have opted not to have the maid service until further notice), especially for the ones being more at risk… and at all times, when you have someone in your home at this point KEEP YOUR DISTANCE. The staff will continue to be paid.
All of your bills will be paid, not to worry. For renters, if at all possible to deposit the funds of the rent electronically would be best, but if not possible, we will collect the checks as usual.
All emergencies are responded to immediately. Again, same applies for plumbers, electricians or general maintenance staff that we send to your homes. Please KEEP YOUR DISTANCE. For any non-emergency responses, PLEASE BE PATIENT. We have some staff that are not working, so we are trying to use the pool of service providers that we have.
In the interim, if you have any questions or concerns, please let us know. Obviously, we ALL need to make some adjustments (and attitude adjustments) and become more aware as the Phases of the spread as this virus continues. IF AT ALL POSSIBLE, stay home. STAY INFORMED, on-line…. Let’s all remember that for some people this is nothing and it will go away, while others are more realistic of the global issues….. in all cases we need to respect all of one’s decisions…. But more importantly respect each other and any person you get in contact with. When we see news such as this morning in Italy that doctors are saying that they will no longer attend to anyone over 60 years of age….. kinda makes you think. We are blessed to be here in Mexico, but at the same time lets also not forget that the amount of medical facilities available in crisis such as this, is certainly not to the levels of European countries…. And even when we see our neighbors closing borders, California closing its state…. Now Guatemala, Belize closing their borders with Mexico…. Make a difference, STAY HOME as much as possible!
Stay well, keep informed, if at all possible STAY HOME.

Do not believe anything that has been circulated by e-mail unless there is an official link in it.

Re: just received
thanks Bob, you know this person who sent this out. You had rented in this condo years ago. I am so embarrassed and thought she would NOT be sending out this type of information unless it were factual. Thank you for making my day. Now pool time with a glass of wine.
