Maid comes today . . .
. . .I am self-quarantining. What to do? She has a husband and an 8 y/o grandchild at home.
Child is in school. What to do.
Without doubt, she will be paid throughout this, but should I have her in the house for 5 hrs? I'm speaking for BOTH of our sakes, not just mine.
What are ya'll doing about maids?

Either you're in quarantine or you are not. If you are allowing people into your house you might just as well be going out yourself.

I've been thinking the same thing. Once there are reported cases in this area I will probably give the maid and gardener a few weeks paid vacation.

I wouldn't even wait until there are reported cases. Inform her of "WHY" and pay her for a month and sit tight.
I'm currently trying to find a way to home disinfect money.

Thank you so much guys! That is exactly what I am thinking. She will be here soon and will pay her and tell her that we should suspend her services for now. I will miss her, in many ways, but I think an abundance of caution is the way to go too.
Bob, you are waiting until there is proven infection before you suspend services? Isn't that kinda like closing the barn door after the cows get out?
Thank you for your rapid input guys and gal, you helped me make the right decision. As Matt says, you are either in quarantine or you are not. And I am.

And then there are those of us who are in no physical condition to clean our houses and use agency services like Spring Cleaning on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. Problem, eh?

No problem, Gringal, do the best you can cleaning, this won't last forever and if you prioritize a messy house versus a potentially deadly virus - there is no question what is the right thing to do.
Maid came, I met her at the gate, wore a mask, and we had a good conversation. She understands completely and is now going to take better precautions in her house as well. We will talk by phone every week before she comes. It went very well and we parted saying "Cuidate mucho, te amo!"

Good decision Trailrunner.
I'm putting my paper money in the dryer and my coins on a tray in the sun. May not be perfect but it's the best compromise I can come up with. Only hot temperatures seem to work.

Ferret, all you have to do is wash you hands well after handling any money. Trying to disinfect money doesn't make sense to me.

I'm thinking about the people that I hand money to... although I could say, you've been paid now go wash your hands and don't use it.
I am also going to use my credit card where possible.

Someone posted on another board "our cleaning lady phoned to say she will be working from home during this season. She would phone in to give cleaning instructions".

Haha....good one. I'm staying away from the bars, restaurants and casino for a while. Going to have a staycation since all our upcoming guests have cancelled.

Re: Maid comes today . . .
Yeah, I've done that too. But I don't have pockets in my underwear which gets washed in bleach whereas my clothes are washed in lukewarm water and laundry detergent which may or may not kill the virus according to the internet. However the internet does suggest that the heat of the dryer WILL kill the virus. Also ironing. In my home, iron is a four letter word. ;)
