Electricity out today?
I was told by a neighbor the electricity would be down for 12 hours today in the Chula Vista area.
Is anyone aware of the details.

Re: Electricity out today?
Many residents were emailed that work is being undertaken in that area today. CFE has been methodically replacing bad poles and doing transformer and other maintenance repair work for months all over, which I still find surprising.
Not all streets will be affected; I would not be surprised if it continues tomorrow.

Re: Electricity out today?
My electricity goes off and on for a few seconds almost every day so I bought a no-break / surge-suppressor.
My mistake is that it's 500 VA or 300 Watts and is not strong enough to keep my computer running for very long. Just for a few seconds which only solves some of the problems. My neighbor lost his TV when our transformer blew up. He had a bar surge suppressor but it could not handle the surge and it blew too.

The only thing that really works is a voltage regulator. They sell them at Wal-Mart and Home Depot. Power bars are useless.

In a severe Thunderstorm it is best to unplug any devices, since even a regulator will not prevent damages in the event of a spike.

I try to remember to unplug even the regulators before a storm...that way I KNOW things are safe. We have 3 and am thinking about a 4th.

My computer guy said a No Break is better than a voltage regulator.

The no break is a voltage regulator with a battery . You can plug a number of electronic things into it.cypress wrote:My computer guy said a No Break is better than a voltage regulator.

Re: Electricity out today?
Keep in mind if you go to buy a no-break the box will say 500 va or simular, that does not mean it will handle a 500 watt load. 500 va translates to about 300 watts. It is best to calculate the wattage you will require for the items you want to plug into it and then find a no-break with a little more than double the va stated on the box. So if your computer takes 450 watts to run you will need a 1000 va no-break or larger to keep it running for enough time to shut it down after a power outage
