The war on drugs is a total joke. It does not keep people from doing drugs. It does not keep people from selling drugs. It does not keep people from manufacturing drugs. What it does in the US is put literally millions of people in jail which benefits no one except "for profit prisons":/ What it does in Mexico is get people killed:/ Neither are good outcomes. Prohibition of anything just promotes it. $47,000,000,000 spent on drug law enforcement in the US in 2107. 1.6 million people incarcerated for drugs in the US in 2017. 85% of those incarcerated were for possession.....for just having drugs, not for selling or manufacturing. I have no idea about the statistics in Mexico but the war on drugs has a seriously huge effect here. Anything other than decriminalization is just a band aid that will tear away in a very short time and no solution at all:/

They have legalized drugs in the Netherlands. Fixes available with sterile syringes, reasonable price and rehab programs. No more black market or drug dealing on the streets and they have closed many prisons for previous drug related arrests.

Yes, it has worked well there, I applaud them for that and hope the US and MX do the same. However, they do not have vicious blood-thirsty organized cartels calling the shots as we do. I like the idea, in theory, but am very apprehensive.

Portugal also has decriminalized all drugs with great success.

I was stationed in the Netherlands in the early 60s. And I remember at that time that marijuana was legal. Being immature, I remember that I felt that there was no point in smoking it, if I were not breaking a law.

And I never smoked it once while stationed there. I have no recollection about what other drugs were or were not allowed at that time.

I was under the impression Mexico had legalized marijuana for medical purposes. Is CBD oil the only thing they legalized?

I spent a month in Chapala a year ago. I'm just curious as to what the punishment would likely be, if you got busted with a couple joints of illegal in the lakeside area. Let's just assume you have gringo privilege and it is a first offense. And no bribes paid.
