Art Supplies - Canvases

I'm ready to take the big plunge. Where is the best place locally to buy large (24"X 36" and bigger) canvases? I know Lumen, but wrestling a few large on the bus/uber is unappealing to me. Suggestions? Anybody had large canvases delivered by Amazon or Blick? How did they arrive? Don't find on Mercado Libre. Gringal???

No problem, so here's an alternative I like: up to the max that will fit in my car (4"x6"), but really...up to whatever you're willing to tackle.

Yes, I go to Salvador's once or twice a week. Looking for an additional source. Like bulk orders. I also use Copy Riberas.

I have a friend who is a professional painter who is staying with us and is working on 3 4fx4f paintings for someone in Guadaljara.. He had the frames done by a carpenter.. The ne on Guadalupe Victora and he buys the loneta in Guadalajara in Santa Teresita on Pedro Buzeta Street.. It is an orange place called CentroMercantil Villanueva 33 3826 2682

Thanks, Brigitte, I have no knowledge as to how to stretch canvas and not much desire to learn, but that is an option.

I've done it: it's a royal PITA on larger canvases. You will need a gripping tool to get the proper tension. After that, you either have the canvas maker prime it or you do it: another non-rewarding chore. IMHO, it's enough to put something on the final product that you enjoy looking at! Good luck!

Couldn't agree more! When the 2 people I know that do it professionally don't like doing it - that's enough for me.

Salvador told me yesterday he may have an assistant coming to work with him and he will make canvases. Vamos a ver.

Other than that, looks like a trip up to Lumen to buy and establish a sustainable ordering and delivery system will have to be done.

Edited to add: would be great if other srtists wanted to share a car and driver up to Lumen for an art supplies shopping trip! There are 2 of us so far. Anyone else interested?

Have you talked to Efren Gonzalez about getting them through him?

Stop the presses!!! Just got a message that a new art supply store will open Oct 1st in Centro Laguna Mall! Hope so!

Efren has a ton of canvases on display. I see them when we take that street to get to the carreterra. I don't know if he has or can get larger ones than those on display.

Trailrunner if you change your mind we are going to Guadalajara tuesday morning. They have loneta 3meter so a little wider than 6 feet, wide and and it is what my friend needs. It is 24o ésos a meter
My friend just did a large paintig without any griping tool but he does not like to do it. Then you have to prep the canvas so it is not all that simple but that is what he does or one of his assistant does.
In the past he had the frames done at Efren but Efren is not there right now,
Efren is n Europe with all of his family right now and will not be back until end of septembe, I think..

Thanks, Brigitte, muy amable, but I really don't want to embark on the canvas stretching endeavor as i have enough of a challenge making pretty pictures on it!

We are going to Lumen on the 23rd and the new art store has its grand opening the 4th, 5th, and 6th at Centro Laguna across from the casino. Gringal, it is scheduled to have a gallery, areas for workshops, art supplies, and will accept special orders. Cool!
