Paying a high price in an emergency situation is better than the alternative of REALLY paying the highest price of all.

Re: RMC Hospital, SAT - Update July 2019
I heard the one that is already open is charging around $500 usd per day plus all the usual add ons. About the same as many of the nice ones in Guadalajara.

Why concern yourselves with this? If you need it and it is open, great. If you do not need their services, it doesn't matter.

It always matters. Any one of us could need a hospital at anytime — some could need one in the next 20 minutes and not know it as they read this.

Sure, anything is possible. However, there is a big difference between an Autozone and a hospital. But, we’ll all see come December 1st and again in January. There will be a big grand opening or there won’t. It makes no difference to me. I am just making an idle observation. As I said, I don’t know much about construction.
HUGE difference. And not just a hospital by Jan 1st, but "fully functional". That means: docs hired and in place, RNs in place, all sophisticated equipment delivered, functioning, operating tech staff trained and in place, OR ready to do surgery, maintenance and housekeeping staffed and ready to go, ambulance purchased, stocked, staffed, and ready to roll, admitting department ready to go, billing ready to go, food service stocked and ready to go and on and on.
A little less than 4 months. . . we will see. Hope you can do it.
Sorry TR, but in Mexico "fully functional" means the main entrance door opens both ways. All the rest of what you describe is called in Spanish….."Servicio de Lujo". ¿ Me entiendes ?...…..

Re: RMC Hospital, SAT - Update July 2019
BTW, regarding pricing and emergencies . . . True emergencies can result in surgeries, pacemakers, stents, etc so if you present at an expensive hospital ER, and it is determined that you need one of those, you will be quickly ushered into that hospital's expensive system. If you want to keep costs down best to present initially at a lower cost ER and go from there. Just because some hospital ERs are less expensive than others does not necessarily mean poor care.

Re: RMC Hospital, SAT - Update July 2019
Yep me too. I finally broke down and got insurance last year after a couple of expensive out of pocket stints at the expensive hospitals in Guadalajara. I'm very happy to have these two new hospitals here. I think the newest one coming can handle almost everything and will be getting patients from the other one when deemed to be above their capabilities.

Yep, I agree, closest is best. However, there is an even better answer and that is closest appropriate hospital. For example, if you think you might be having a stroke or neuro issue, it's best to get to the closest ER with a CT or MRI. Clots have to be confirmed before clot busters can be given and the window of opportunity is small and can be lost while transfers are being arranged and inter-facility travel is taking place.
We will be very lucky to have a well-functioning high-level hospital here with all this equipment securely opperating.

Exactly TR! A heart attack and stabilization before transport (if necessary) would also be at the top of my list.

To be clear, I am not favoring any one particular hospital in my comment and should have said :
We will be very lucky to have ANY well-functioning high-level hospital here with all this KIND OF equipment securely opperating.

I'm surprised you were able to get insurance after having stents. Will you be covered if you require more stents? When we first arrived here more than 14 years ago, both my husband and I were turned down for insurance because of pre-existing medical conditions. My husband had a pacemaker and I have coronary artery disease (no stents at that time).

He said "stints" not "stents". Different word, different meaning.

Three weeks ago . I was in a nice hospital in Chapalita and the room was 2700 pesos a day so 500 dollars is pretty steep.. I have private insurrance but I have a copay and I pay a percentage of the cost so why spend 500 dollars almost 10 000 pesos a day when you can get a nice room at a fraction of that price and you are in a major city where there are tons of choces for doctors and treatments..?

The hospitals here, I will only use in an emergency situation but otherwise forget it.

Re: RMC Hospital, SAT - Update July 2019
We only paid 3,500 pesos for a 24 hour stay at the new hospital on the Carretera in SAT several months ago. I can´t imagine how they could charge 10,000 peos a day when they don´t even have an ICU?
What was the nature of the treatment that cost 10,000? Did that include X-rays, CT scans, or some other medical or pharmaceutical expenses in addition to the room rent?

Re: RMC Hospital, SAT - Update July 2019
I know someone who just had a knee replacement there. It was $150,000.00 pesos. In there for 2 days. I don't know the breakdown of charges.

Sorry, Canuck Bob. I misread your post to stay "stents" and not stints.
