Mountain Fire
Last night, while walking the dog around the village, I suddenly noticed how close the fire has become to us. It was outlined up on a ridge sorta above the ugly road area. Been reading about it for several days but didn't realize it was coming this way. Heard the helicopter yesterday, looks like only one, and the periodicals say they are fighting it. Tough location, hope they get it out and the bomberos are safe.

Re: Mountain Fire
Unless it is threatening humans or structures I say let it burn. Nature's way of cleansing. The new growth will be back in a year or so. Spend the helicopter money on fixing sidewalks and roads. Those helicopters go for about $5000usd per hour.

Yes, let it burn, but people closer to the fire who have breathing problems are suffering.

Absolutely. It's also bothering people who don't have breathing problems to begin with. Hopefully, they will snuff it. If they don't, it could create some very serious other problems, like burning into populated areas in those hills.

Re: Mountain Fire
The fire must be closer to you guys, i don't even smell smoke here in SA. They'll get it out soon. Meantime, close up the house best you can. Suerte.

Re: Mountain Fire
Yet I haven't smelled even a wiff of smoke. I been out driving around in my convertible too. Well I'm sure those two helicopter water dumps ate up the years budget anyhow.
Maybe they could do 1,000,000 of them and prevent the impending flood.........

Re: Mountain Fire
Because I felt it was more relevant than "wildland".

Too bad it cleanses the wild life too. It's Spring. There are probably a thousand bird nests there. If the birds die my cats will have nothing to drag into the house to torture and kill under my bed.

Good observation. Cats kill hundreds of millions of birds a year worldwide.

Did you notice the slipping tiles on the roof in the photos? They need attention before the rains come.

Re: Mountain Fire
The tiles are not the thing holding the rain out. They are just decorative and get constantly pushed around by all the friggin LCS cats at night.

The cats are moving the roof tiles to get at the Rats!

Re: Mountain Fire
It is the local squirrels that mess my tiles up when they escape from my dogs. Then they hide under the solar panels. Lots of fun!

I wish that were the case. There are 4 or 5 feral cats (I believe the LCS feeds them) that runaround up there fighting and/or fornicating every night......back and forth.

From my front door it looks like the fire has crested the mountain and is now burning down the hill on the lake side.

Re: Mountain Fire
This afternoon I watched the helicopters fill the buckets close to or in Chula Vista Norte. Is there water there or are they filling in pools? The copter looked like it was right in the homes when it filled. They took the water to the big fire as I watched the small ones on the lakeside of the mountains grow. (I'm not that bored, but the car was getting washed at the Mall)

Re: Mountain Fire
We don't have a lot of evacuation routes if it came to that: North towards the fires, south to the lake, and east or west along a 2 lane highway.

Re: Mountain Fire
Well it won't burn far beyond the bottom. Fortunately most of the structures here are made of primarily none flammable materials. Not like the wood framed, cedar shingled houses up north. I wouldn't want to be living right at the base of the mountain though.
