"...waiter's waitress;s and bartender;s receive no pay or insurance."
That is not true. A friend, who is a long-time waiter, once explained to me that while many waiters receive little more than the minimum wage, they are paid, get vacations and Christmas bonuses as the labor law requires. They are covered by IMSS.
I have another waitress friend who is the main provider for her family. Of course she gets paid!

Rolly, I know, thru personal experience that people get “paid under-the table” so to speak. I don’t expect it’s that much different here. People are desperate and work is work. Pay half of the employees correctly and pay the other half “under the table” and who’s the wiser? And if someone does catch on more than likely a mordida will take care of the issue. Laws are written but not always followed. :(

I didn’t know this. Now I have to agree with “Gringal” if you can’t afford to TIP, perhaps you should stay home. Your taking up space where a “Tipper” might sit.
You can read this any way you want.
***************************************************************************************************
would that be simular to ... if you are in a licenced establishment and you're not drinking... you should get the hell out cause you are using up space an alcoholic might sit in?

IMO, that's not a comparison. Drinker is to alcoholic as diner is to glutton.
Point being: if you can't afford to tip, why are you in a restaurant with waiters expecting one? That's an important chunk of their income.

Rolly is correct. My wife's family has been in the restaurant business for nearly 60 years. While some seasonal help doesn't make the IMSS roles, permanent employees do. And ALL workers earn a wage. So when someone makes a claim that wait staff receive no pay that is just another example of the ignorance of this country that pervades on these boards. Asinine assumptions.

I don’t believe either one of us(Rolly & I) stated employees received “no pay” it’s the difference between legal pay and what supply and demand is creating in disparity.

We’ll it’s apparent you’ve never waited on the majority of drunks, if you don’t get TIPS per drink order you can pretty well forget it. Memories of my University years.
