OMG! How nice of you! Ohhh, yes, I'd love to have it and she will be shocked. She will love it. She has no computer, no internet or wifi, and only a phone with a cracked screen but she's pretty internet savy and uses fb. She'll figure it out.

So. To put books on it . . . she has no credit card so an Amazon account is not an option. If I use my account, how do I protect myself from charges?

I am no help on the operational side. We will need to get help clearing it and getting access to free books. Any suggestions on who to take it to to get it cleared? I can handle that.

I'm a little curious as to what is hopefully to be accomplished here. Does this person WANT to be weaned away from the telenovelas? Does she WANT to read books instead? Or is this a gringa's idea of elevating her taste? If so, how is that going to be accomplished unless she has a desire to read the great books of history?

I think if you go to My Account and find Return to Default or something like that you can clear it.

I was thinking of asking Computer Guy to help with torrents and downloading books. Then hope there are books in Spanish to download. And interesting books in Spanish she might like! Amazon would be so much better. She might have an uncle with a credit card who could set up an account for her and I could show her how to use it and help her find free books she would like. . .

I googled and one site said you can set up an account without a cc. I get a daily email with free or greatly reduced books from categories I preselected but I found on Amazon where the freebies are so I assume there will be Spanish ones too. Try googling free ebooks in Spanish and see what you can find.

Many, many sources of e-books in Spanish that are free. The kindle uses Mobi but I can convert for you if necessary using Calibre.

Not sure where she gets wifi from, maybe a neighbor or plaza but she would go there and access one of these free ebook sites, download a book, and have it to read whenever. No credit cards no internet account. Right? I can show her how to do that.

Walmart has free internet.

I think centro San Antonio has wifi too. And, she works full time she can afford to go to the Internet cafes in the village.

If she's only 25, ask her if she enjoyed the Harry Potter movies. If she did, easy start.
