Which bricks are typically used for boveda ceilings?
There's the large low-fire brick typical construction brick, and then a smaller brick that looks like it is a higher-fired brick - cleaner looking??

Thanks .....

Go for the latter. It is much more durable, easier to sweep clean without 'shedding red dust', and definitely more attractive.

that was my reaction as well .... the big stuff looks like it is ready to disintegrate ....

I've now checked a few houses all of which have the small brick ceilings.

Anyone else ... comments?

Ours were done with the smaller bricks in a herringbone pattern in our new porch. Much cleaner to start with and keeping them clean is simple.

I believe there is a special brick for bovedas, at the base only, called pigeon beak, or something like that.
Here I looked up the article for you, I have a copy of the original somewhere around here, in a book. Beware that they will only let you view the article a couple of times. If this article is helpful, I could lend you the book.
