Finally got his ex-wife's e-mail and she reports he is doing fine physically. His Dr., to a lesser degree, is still testing, monitoring and giving him drugs as needed but her special brand of meds seem to be what is carrying the day. For more information I'll PM you her E

Don’t take it personally, Kip. I think Jim got pissed off at everyone eventually. The more he liked you the madder he would eventually get at you. He would end up having total melt-downs until his anger and meanness forced you to walk away. At least that was my experience.

I wonder if that was early dementia or Alzheimer’s? Glad the cancer seems to not be an issue lately.

More like alcoholism.

Yep, except that I've seen happy drunks as well as mean drunks and am of the opinion that it's a matter of releasing inhibitions with the booze to allow for the real personality to show: in other words, an asshole is an asshole, deep down, but keeps it more or less under control until the booze kicks in. I've known this type only too well. The okay human beings just get silly when drinking.

When I was dating my girl friend many many years ago who was from Finland we made a trip to meet her parents who by the way did not speak a word of English. The first night we all got together for a game of cards. Her father kept on pouring me gin and tonics. The next morning I felt terrible. My girl friend said that her dad just wanted to get me drunk to see if I was a happy drunk or a mean drunk, well I was a happy drunk so I guess I passed the test.....
