John McCain
Has just passed away at the age of 81. A man of integrity and honour. He will be sorely missed.

Re: John McCain
Integrity and honor ? He left his first wife after she had a horrible car accident and started an affair with his now current current wife (kind of like that North Carolina senator).

Re: John McCain
This is what he just wrote:
"I made a small place for myself in the story of America and the history of my times," McCain notes, adding, "What an ingrate I would be to curse the fate that concludes the blessed life I've led. I prefer to give thanks for those blessings, and my love to the people who blessed me with theirs. The bell tolls for me. I knew it would. ... I hope those who mourn my passing, and even those who don't, will celebrate as I celebrate a happy life lived in imperfect service to a country made of ideals, whose continued success is the hope of the world. And I wish all of you great adventures, good company, and lives as lucky as mine."

One of the few politicians who believed in working together no matter the party affiliation. Not many of them are willing to cross the aisle to get things done. RIP

It would be interesting to read past posts that were written and what your thoughts were then vs now. I'm sure there's plenty of derogatory words.

Re: John McCain
Nobody is suggesting that John McCain was a saint. Relative to a few of our current politicians, he's a lot closer to it !!
He was, however, at least ten times the human being as the sleazy one who insulting his status as a hero.
He probably would have been elected POTUS in the past if he hadn't taken the bad advice of bringing Ms. Palin on as his running mate.
R.I.P. for a job well done in your service to your country.

As one of the same generation, it is especially sad for me to see the passing of John McCain; "one of the good guys", who will certainly be missed. He should be an example to all who choose to serve the country, regardless of party affiliation, civilian or military, and even in the media.
Dependability, Honor and Integrity lived within him.

Re: John McCain
"Before his death Saturday, Sen. John McCain had a special request for two familiar faces to give eulogies at his funeral: former Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush."
"Bush, meanwhile, who beat out McCain to win the Republican presidential nomination in 2000, also shared a statement praising the late Navy veteran as “a patriot of the highest order.”
“Some lives are so vivid, it is difficult to imagine them ended. Some voices are so vibrant, it is hard to think of them stilled,” Bush wrote. “John McCain was a man of deep conviction and a patriot of the highest order. He was a public servant in the finest traditions of our country. And to me, he was a friend whom I’ll deeply miss.”

One of the Vultures' own passes and you wet yourselves in shameless and, needless to say, unwarranted hagiography. None of these wastes of space attained their respective positions by dint of virtuosity. Some may be less horrible than others, but that's about all that can be said with any accuracy.

Re: John McCain
In today's political world, "less horrible" seems like heaven on earth.
Granted, McCain wouldn't look as good if the grading wasn't done on the curve.
But it is, so it is what it is.
Hope springs eternal.......in degrees...LOL

Politicians are not elected for their virtuosity, so I think you're being overly harsh. We elect people who we hope will work to get our goals accomplished. Some worked harder than others, and McCain was one of them. The sleazeball in chief hated him for getting in the way of his plan to destroy Obamacare, once and for all. I applaud McCain for doing so.

That is obvious, and not my point. My point is that a politician's efforts and accomplishments and said politician's constituent's goals seem to correlate only when those goals, however tangentially, align with their own, or their master's.

Often true, but tell me how McCain's opposition to Trump's efforts to destroy Obamacare aligned with McCain's interests or "his master's", as a start. My position is that he did so on principle...his own.

He bucked the repeal of Obama Care before his diagnosis... and that's not the first time he's strayed.

Re: John McCain
That's pretty damning, all right. I didn't vote for him when he ran for president because he was well known to be a Hawk, and since he was a Republican, I never expected him to vote for matters favored by the Democrats. However, compared to some of the sleazebags such as the Twitterer and petty child who's been dissing him, McCain was a decent human being whose politics I simply never agreed with.
I have respected a number of people I strongly disagreed with and will continue to do so. Also, I don't think it's appropriate to speak ill of the dead since they can't offer a defense. (I might change that opinion if the current occupant of the White House suffered a mortal stroke, though. I'm a sinner, too.)
