Using Pay-As-You-Go Telcel in Texas

Last time we traveled into Texas, our phones automatically changed to T-Mobile but we couldn't make calls. We don't have a Telcel plan. We just put 100 pesos on our numbers every 60 days. Does anyone know if there's something we can do - short term, just for the trip - to be able to make calls, etc. while in Texas? Gracias.

It may have something to do with the area codes etc. when you are calling locally while NOB. You have to either dial it like you are local or add all the international and area codes like you are calling from here. I can't remember how I did it when I was NOB. Try it both ways?

We had to go into settings and switch from 4g down to 3g settings to get our tel cel phone to work in Laredo.

In Seattle these day my Telcel gets T-Mobile and when I want to phone a local number, I simply have to phone the area code followed by the local number, the same thing I would have to do with a landline.

Yeah that sounds right. All my friends numbers are preprogrammed into my phone here with the 001 in front so I have to manually dial when up there like a local call. I knew I had to do something different. Thanks Pete.

So neither of you have a special plan that allows you to make US phone calls or anything like that? My Amigo set up is that I just pay .85 pesos per minute, adding 100 pesos to my account every 60 days (could be 50 pesos for 30 days if I wanted).

I was trying to phone and text my spouse (Telcel number) and couldn't. How would I do that then?

I believe we have the same plan which is the basic nothing special Amigo plan where 100 pesos gets 60 days and 50 pesos maybe a month.

I thought but am not sure that I pay 0.98 pesos per minute etc., But I am not sure

I just pay as I go. I have never tried texting or calling another TelCel phone while they are both roaming NOB.
