Fake IRS scam call
I finally got the famous phony IRS call where a recorded message said that the IRS had found a fraudulent entry in my IRS paperwork. And demanded that I immediately phone the IRS office for future instructions. My internet phone number down here in Ajijic has a Seattle area code and the phony IRS voice told me to call a number that had an area code which was also in Seattle. Darn I really wish I had copied the telephone # down. It would have been fun to phone them using my Telmex landline. And then lead them on for as long as I could. :)
If I had fallen for this call, I would have been told that I had to immediately send funds somewhere to the thieves. And that if I didn't I would be subject to immediate arrest or something like that.
I guess if you were naïve you might fall for this call. The trouble is, they were phoning my new number over the internet, that I had not yet made public. I have a brand new Ooma account (much better and much cheaper than Vonage).

Maybe that's why it's cheaper, they've already sold your information.MexicoPete wrote:The trouble is, they were phoning my new number over the internet, that I had not yet made public. I have a brand new Ooma account (much better and much cheaper than Vonage).

Re: Fake IRS scam call
They did not use my name. Rather it was a tape recorded message meant for anyone getting it and stupid enough to call their phony IRS office back. It occurred exactly like we have been warned against.
It was too funny. Thank God I had been warned on several occasions in the past. :)
