San Carlos, in the winter, will be cooler and more windy. There would be many more options to stay in Melaque and surrounds than San Carlos but I don't know about the 'expense' of each.

Yes it is cooler but averages daytime 80F in winter with lower humidity and fewer tropical bugs. The water temperature drops to around 60F. Overall it's quite pleasant.

We lived in San Carlos for 4 years. The climate in the winter is moderate although it can get cold at night, then there is summer, that's what drove us out. Temp can get to 120 with 100% humidity. As far as cost of living, about half again what you pay in Melaque.

I agree. I wouldn't consider it for full time, the summers would be unbearable. The wind there can also be bothersome, so one needs to choose location carefully. Having said that, both places (San Carlos and Guaymas next door) are remarkably clean and well kept.
