Kids at Superlake.

Yesterday two little girls just wouldn't stop following me around Superlake.
They were obviously "trained" to beg from old gringoes. The owner of S.L. was ignoring
the scene, so I finally "paid them off" to get them off my case. The girls should have been in school, so sad that these kids are being used by adults, and mea culpa for taking the bait.
What would you have done?

I either give them 1 peso or ignore them.They are super pushy.

You taught them a lesson: if they continue to be pushy, they will be rewarded. I don't believe Pancho allows them in the store. Perhaps you should have let him know. BTW--Pancho is not the owner but rather the manager.

According to the Pazs, the best thing to do is to call DIF. They have the resources to investigate and remedy child exploitation, up to and including putting the kids in a protective home.

First, I politely say, "No hoy, gracias." If they continue, I look them straight in the eyes (this is important) and give them the index finger wag while firmly saying "no." Never had a kid persist after that.

If they overstay their welcome I just.....
make a face, show my teeth and say..."soy un coco y comera".
That usually takes care of it....something they understand, plus gives them a giggle.

(when you say "coco" in this fashion, it doesn't mean coconut)

Yeah, calling DIF is really going to help since DIF won't show up. These kids come from desperately poor families that need the kids to provide additional sources of income so that everybody can eat.

You could buy them a bag of Masa. Their mother will know what to do with it.
