Orientation and mobility training
Has anyone heard of anywhere that does white cane training for visually impaired or blind people. Thanks

Re: Orientation and mobility training
I know exactly what you're talking about as my mom was legally blind and had terrific service and help from Lighthouse for the Blind in California.
I know of nothing like that here and I just asked my maid from Joco and she said the same thing. She doesn't think there is anything. Would be a good service to start here!
As far as I know, the Talking Books program is still in service at LCS. It is the only outside of the US, official Library of Congress talking books site. You would be given a special machine to play their tapes, you get the tapes from LCS and return them to LCS. They get everything from the LofC in the US.

Re: Orientation and mobility training
Thanks so much. I had asked my opthamalogist also and he didnt know of anywhere. It is very surprising to me that this service is not available. I am sure I am not the only visually impaired person. Thanks for the info about LCS.

Re: Orientation and mobility training
There is a blind couple, maybe someone here knows them, that live on the south shore (I think) who are very nice and very helpful. You might be able to contact them thru LCS/Talking Books.
Somebody should start that service. Suerte!
