Electricity Lowering Device
My maid is here and we were comparing CFE bills and she said her last one was 40 pesos! Six people live in this house! She went on to tell me about this cool thing she plugs into an electrical socket and it does something to lower the amount of electricity consumed. Her bills are way less than 100 pesos and she's been using it for about a year. CFE has said nada. You plug it in and it works for the whole house. She says no lights are dimmer and there has been no changes since using it.
She got it at Sam's Club in Guad, it was around 1200 pesos and it comes 2 to a package that she split with her sister. Anybody know about this??? She can't remember the name of it and the package is long gone.

Re: Electricity Lowering Device
Sounds like BS. I do know you can run a "jumper wire" across the terminals behind your meter and it will significantly lower the reading on your meter each month. I understand many Mexicans (and some gringos) do this. It is called "theft" though.....

Why not ask her to unplug the apparatus and bring it to show you what she's talking about. Or go to her house. We can comment all we want, but I'd look to see what she's referring to....

Re: Electricity Lowering Device
I cannot explain why your housekeeper's CFE bill is only $40.00 but I am certain that there is no device that would function as she describes. These are immutable laws of the Universe. The first law of thermodynamics -- energy can be transformed from one form to another, but can be neither created nor destroyed is at play here. This would be akin to a perpetual motion device. It would revolutionize the world to have devices like this. But, alas TINSTAAFL (there is no such thing as a free lunch).

Re: Electricity Lowering Device
hahaha spacedebris. I admire your theory but it lacks the Mexican wildcard.
I'm sure there will be SOME type of logical explanation of this and I WILL get to the bottom of it and let y'all know. I guarantee it will be interesting.
However, I will not be dashing out to Joco tonight.

I accept any and all wild cards and I am always impressed at the abilities, ingenuity, and inventiveness of my Mexican neighbors. However, this is still earth and at least in the variant of the universe where I reside, one can't get something from nothing. There will be a simple explanation. A "broken" meter is my bet.

But! Ya'll are forgetting she bought this thing at Sams. Paid over 1200 pesos. Two in a package, shared with sister. . .a year ago.
AND! I've known her for 10 years, she's been cleaning my house almost all this time. We were neighbors. I know the whole family. They don't just make shit up. . .

Sorry, don't get me wrong I'm not accusing anyone of anything. Just saying there are some truths. You can't push with a rope, you don't build a septic tank uphill and you can't get free electricity.

Don't apologize, I'm laughing while reading all this too. I hear what you're saying. . .and I"m sure there will be a very good explanation. I honestly thought one of you guys would say, yeah, that's a wachamacallit but it only works on bla bla bla.
Maybe I will go out to Joco tonight. . .lol

Errrr, yes you can build a septic tank uphill, with a pump system, a very common installation ..... However, I do get your point.

Re: Electricity Lowering Device
Remember that whether you use any electricity per month or not you are billed for a minimum of $23 pesos per month or because most of us are billed every other month the amount is $46 pesos.
So if someone says their bill is only $30 pesos I would become very suspicious. Oh the minimum charge is for 25 KWH per month and the charge is about 98 centavos per KWH. I have solar panels and because I have one more panel than I needed I always pay the minimum amount every two months which is $46 pesos per every two months plus a few centavos. Now because they bill by whole peso only every once in a while, my bill is $47 pesos.
So I guess I would be suspicious if he person is paying less than the minimum amount billed. Might that person be one of those special persons who is billed once per month? If so the minimum bill would be 23 to 24 pesos per month. And a bill for only $30 would be for someone who uses about 1 KWH per day. There is something very wrong here, and I bet it is just a simple misunderstanding created by the language barrier.
You had better believe that if someone's residential bill was only $30 pesos per billing period, CFE would be checking that person out to see how this is being done. They checked me out.

Re: Electricity Lowering Device
LOL... Oh, yeah Pete. I reported in April of 2015 that my electrical meter wasn't working and got a work order number. NOTHING happened for over a year even though I kept reporting it and my bill was 46 pesos every two months. I moved out of that rental house in June of 2016... and they still hadn't replaced the meter. Incredibly incompetent.
BTW, I'm now using my fans full tilt in my new house... my electrical bill is a whopping 311 pesos for two months... and I don't have solar.
Go figure.

It is probably that power saver in Joco leaking extra current into the whole grid and saving us all money!

I found that if I keep everything running, especially the toaster, space heater and air conditioners, I end the month in the black. CFE is begging me to stop. I get a check from them every two months for all the electricity I have saved. I just don't know what to do with all this toast.
