What a week in Mexico... Empty What a week in Mexico...

Post by toedippers Sat Apr 08, 2017 8:03 pm

As a rule – I don’t typically contribute opinion pieces to this board – I’ve seen folks excoriated over posts like “When does Wal-Mart open?” and “Does the ATM have any money in it?” – so I’ve been hesitant to comment on much  - but this week - I can’t help myself.

Leaving aside the truly horrible stuff – or most of it – you just couldn’t make up the kind of crazy stories that made up this weeks news.

There was the corruption stuff – finding out the key liaison between the DEA and Mexican National Security force was in fact an informant for a cartel, and of course the arrest of the Attorney General of Nayarit for drug trafficking.

But how about former Governor Duarte (not the one from Veracruz who stole $40M and switched children’s cancer medicine for water) the Duarte from Chihuahua who is being sought for corruption and has fled to Texas and who has now officially filed a complaint that he is being persecuted by his successor for trying to get back the money that he embezzled.

And it looks like even the actor’s guild in Mexico has been hit with corruption issues – sounds like the makings of a telenovela – but what actress will play the actress who stole the money?

What about the Catholic Church who instead of calling boys abused by priests, victims – called them martyrs?  So wrong…

Back to acting… sort of…  who didn’t cringe when they heard about the porno film apparently filmed in a Guadalajara cemetery… yuk!

But it doesn’t stop there…

There was the man who drove his BMW 6-series into a post in Mexico City killing four – but claiming he is not able to pay anything to the families who lost loved ones because he is a poor – I’m not making this up – popsicle seller making only $53 per month.

Can’t be topped – its Mexico – sure it can…

What about the $300,000 Aston Martin that crashed in a small town in Guerrero? The driver fled leaving his security guys behind.  At this time, no one claims to own the car and the license plate laws do not allow the plates of the car to be matched up with an owner (I thought that was the whole point of plates… but what do I know?).  The mayor denies its his (doth protest too much) – it seems it might be a  ‘government’ car – ‘cause every poor, indebted town of 11,000 people needs a 600Hp Diablo in their fleet of vehicles… oh, and the security guards left behind… they couldn’t remember who they worked for…

Cool blue water…. Cool blue water…  (My calming mantra)

Look, this has been cathartic and I appreciate anyone who stuck through this rant to this point… so because I do love Mexico and my beautiful Mexican wife and our home in Ajijic… I’ll end with this happier story some of you may have seen…

Amidst all this other stuff… the state of Tlaxcala has finally gotten it first escalator – it seems the governor of the state was on hand to take the first ceremonial ride…  apparently all who rode it were impressed. Who knows?  Maybe this new escalator craze will catch on….

I wonder if the security guards are still available to hire. Sounds like perfect employees to have.

When I was in business and anything went wrong, the employees always sent the customers to see me.

You are easily offended.

In the Alabama of my youth in the 1940s and 50s,  my home town of 7.000 folks, 60%  European American and 40% African Americasn, an African American´s  life was not worth a plugged nickle nor, for that matter, was the life iof a European American tenant farmer tilling the soil on the back 40.  I´ll define justice for you.  Rather than plow the land, own it.

Get off your sanctimonious bench.

That´s right, let´s balme it on Mexico.  I am from the UNited States and my wife is from Fance.  We have lived in Mexico for some 17 years .  Before, I lived in such diverse places as Zanzíbar, Kenya. India and France among other places..    I´ll telll you which folks were treated fairly in all of those places.  Folks with money or property. Others were to be ground under their heals.

Water "off" a (or in this case, your) duck´s back if I may be so presumptious as to think you a learned fowl with English Language skills.   On the other hand, many jackasses in my native Alabama are quite well-spoken while endlessley twirling in space.

Let's get "semantical" scratch
Doesn't water have to get ON a duck's back before we can extrapolate how easy it is to come OFF?
Since it's always the duck's back that is used in this expression, they would seem to be the most unbathed  of birds, resulting in foul smelling fowl.
No comment yet about dervishes.

Clever, slainte. duck is among my favorite fowl to ingest but a rare treat, especially here in Mexico.  I am amused by the "foul", "fowl" Word interplay even if it is an easy lift.
