Re: 24/7 In Home Care
it only occurs to me after u mention it... but if you are paying for special home care back home anyways... mexico would undoubtedly be cheaper...bringing mom or dad down to be closer is a great idea!!
does your mom speak spanish?

Re: 24/7 In Home Care
Given the difference in labor rates I would imagine that Mexico would be at least 75% cheaper than NOB. I believe an in-home nurse up in Canada will run you about $25 - $35 per hour.
Re: 24/7 In Home Care
Bob, Here it costs less than $2000.00 per month if you can find competant help as for checking TOB....haven't been there in a year.....banned for life LOL...color me PEDRO LOL

Re: 24/7 In Home Care
These are the websites for Vetteforon's places...
http://www.lakesidecare.com
and http://www.casitadellago.net
Jim, be sure that your mum can handle the altitude before you bring her down here.
Also, living in Canada, you should be aware that 24/7 care in a senior's residence (not a fancy dancy retirement home) is totally tax deductible. A private room with three squares a day cost $2038.00 per month in 2009.
It all depends on what works the best for you and your mum.

Re: 24/7 In Home Care
I copied these from TOB
This place comes highly recommended:
Looking for a care facility for a senior? There is an opening at The Blue House in Lower La Floresta. My mother has been a resident there for just over a year and I couldn't be happier with the extraordinary level of professional care and the reasonable price. The reason for this posting? I have become close friends with the good Doctor Martinez (he is an MD and a geriatric specialist), and I do whatever I can to help him fill any vacancies. If you would like to know more about this relatively new and unknown facility, please PM me. The Blue House is located at Av. Camino Real 123 (the eastern continuation of Ocampo), La Floresta. Tel: 766.1256 Email: abjclay@yahoo.com
One more:
I have a friend who is a Certified Nursing Assistant with many years experience in the U.S. She is available and looking for work. If anyone knows of someone who needs part-time, in-home assistance, please let me know. I will also let her know that she can sign up with Rony's employment registry. Thanks!
Solfeggio's
Someone would have to PM this person for you.
And for the medical (trained) companion caregiver, perfect bilingual translator, driver, ... one can contact me FOR FREE and I can provide a list with mostly inexpensive job seekers, who can do all this also.
(At this moment I have a database with close to 700 Mexican job seekers, ranging from people with college degrees, to bilingual nurses, computer people, tax service specialists, gardeners, gourmet cooks, bricklayers, ... + petsitters, you name it).
Some of them are also witty and cute. :)
elbelgicano@yahoo.com (Rony)
my first post on my blog explains it all : http://vivachapala.blogspot.com/
This is all I could find for you.
Jim, I thought you were moving and that is why you gave your bird away?

Re: 24/7 In Home Care
This message was sent to me last July 2010 so the person may no longer be available. This is the quote sent to me "I know of a home care provider who's client recently moved back to the US and can give her an excellent recommendation. I have known her for 10 years. Bertha Beliz--765-3588 or Red 766-3543" Red is the person who sent me the email. Don't know if Bertha is still available.
Does the person need to speak English?
Here is a woman who provided in home nursing care but don't know if she is interested in full time. She had an add in the Guadalajara Reporter but I have a friend who knows her very well:
Holly Nodwell
Help in-home with daily living activities and healthcare. Her last nursing work in Canada, was providing care for at-home patients. Passable Spanish.
*Accompany/Assist with medical appointments.
*Arrange household services.
*Grocery shopping, bill paying, etc.
Phone: 376-766-6037 or Cell 331-700-3156
Email: hnodwell@gmail.com
Another nurse I know is Lidia Zamudio Cerda, cel phone 045 333 156 9080 or email lidiazamudio@yahoo.com.mx - speaks English and used to run a medical equipment rental and supply store. Don't know if she still does that. And these are old numbers so I don't know if you will reach her there.
And I have a card someone gave me - no experience with this person: Alicia Garcia Barragan, nurse, Experience in home care after surgery - physical therapy, References Phone 765-4158 or cel 045 333 970 0230. This is also very old information.
And I know Deb goes to Dr. Leon, he may know someone who can provide these services.

Re: 24/7 In Home Care
Yes, Thank You all for providing info....I hired a bi lingual lady, I've known since 2005, that relocated back to Chapala, from Mexico City last month...Monday thru Saturday.....48 hours per week.
Does anyone know appropriate wage for this type of work? We are paying 450 pesos per day, for the 45 day position. Then returning to USA for further evaluation.
Ramon, WELCOME TO THE BOARD
