Trail in the vicinity of the Instituto Internacional

We were informed this past weekend that there is a hiking trail up the road from the Instituto Internacional (the access road to the Instituto Internacional is at about the mid point on the Libramiento, north side). We went there this afternoon to get our bearings and ended-up on what we thought might be private land so we turned back. We drove about 1.5km past the turnoff to the Instituto Internacional and found ourselves at an open steel gate (painted yellow), about 100m beyond this point the road forked: to the left it continued up the hill, to the right it appeared to be turning back down.

Does anyone know at what point along this road the hiking trail begins? Your thoughts, opinions and pointers most welcome.
