Historically, it seems that when violence gets far enough out of hand, the gunslinger is elected sheriff. It works, up to a point.

Re: Mysterious Night Bus Avenger
I love him. There used to be a TV show that was a favorite of mine where a white-haired guy in a suit would find people who had been screwed over in one situation or another & he would exact revenge on the evil ones. Didn't murder them but got the point across.
I hope they never catch this person because he'd probably be punished worse than the creeps he "takes care of."

I hope he goes on the execute some more evil doers. Mexican government certainly doesn't do much to stop these sorts of crimes. I wouldn't be surprised if he was hired by the bus companies.....

Agree, I like him too, and this article is better than the first one I read on the subject.
I just had a giant revelation. A few months ago I went backpacking through the Huasteca Potosina, by many buses, mostly by myself. On a short leg deep into the HP and on a funky old bus, the driver suddenly stopped the bus in the middle of the highway, marched back to ME, and demanded I close the window! I was stunned. The window was closed but I had the curtains open enjoying the view of the jungle. I immediately closed the curtains and looking around at all the Mexicans with their curtains open I wondered why I was singled out.
The thing is, bus drivers demeanor wasn't appropriate, in my mind. He was angry and I had no doubt that if I didn't immediately comply he would forcibly throw my ass right out on the street and drive off with my pack still in the baggage compartment. He made that very clear and he watched me in the rear view mirror when he returned to his seat.
Why? Was I letting valuable air con out? Did he hate gringos? Tourists? I've never been able to answer that - until now! I bet he was afraid if certain people along the way saw my old white face in the window they would come on board and rob the bus. This is what I think was really happening. . . That bus driver wasn't angry, he was scared!
