Hotmail - must now manually enter password
I'm using Win 7 Pro with XP emulator.
Starting this morning Hotmail/Outlook insists that I manually enter my password on my Hotmail accounts when it has been auto-filling the password for years. I can go into Security and the passwords are still there. Support.microsoft.com offers no help. Has anyone else had this problem? With searches I see many complaints from recent years about the same problem but not any useful solutions for it.

Re: Hotmail - must now manually enter password
I have Windows 7 with Outlook and have no problems with my Hotmail accounts. Recently there were some changes with outlook.com that required me to reinstall my Hotmail accounts on outlook.

We may have some confusion regarding names here. I should have been a little more specific in my original posting. The old Hotmail free accounts are handled through Outlook.com now. You may be talking about Microsoft Outlook as part of Microsoft Office which can access the same Hotmail, too, but I'm referring to the free Hotmail accessed through Outlook.com which is different from Microsoft Outlook and probably uses different code but I don't know that for a fact. This year Outlook.com has been forcing all of the free Hotmail/Outlook.com users to their latest version which is supposed to be similar to the Microsoft Outlook platform. That is all for their convenience, not ours.

Yep, we are talking about the same thing. Mine were the old school hotmail accounts. They still are @hotmail.com.

Gmail is riddled with hackers and spammers IMO. I have never had a problem with my hotmail accounts.

Not interested in what is in vogue. It's about function, control, and privacy.
I use gmail for my personal email but I'm not giving those addresses to websites, or groups, or to businesses -- that would be inviting spam and all kinds of problems. We have no idea about, and no control over what happens to an address when they get hold of it. That's what the utility email addresses are for. They get all the spam and "special offers".

What all was involved with that? And what problems were you having? It's odd that my Hotmail changed as of this morning but yours didn't, and both on Win 7. Actually, I don't know if it's all Hotmail or Win 7 doing this but I do know that they are in that file that displays under Security.
Have they moved all your accounts to the latest version? They just converted my last account this past week and all of those are making me enter the password.

If you are using XP do you use the hotmail connector add on for Outlook? If nothing else I would try deleting and reinstalling your hotmail account into your outlook. Let it do the automatic set up.

One of my hotmail accounts had to be converted a couple of months ago and the other one a couple of weeks ago. They didn't seem to affect everyone at once.

Agree! Yahoo too.
Had Hotmail since early 90's and I've never been hacked and never get spam. Good service. If it ain't broke . . .

I understand. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. All I know is that I've been using Gmail for personal and business email and never had a problem with hackers. And as far as spam, Gmail sorts that out very nicely, and I just empty my spam folder once in a while.......again, no problems. Given that most of my friends and business associates use Gmail, I tend to agree with them. Maybe the reason I have no issues is because I have a Mac instead of a PC. I had to use a PC for a business venture about 10 years ago, and absolutely hated it. Always had problems with viruses and weirdness. I went back to having a Mac again and loved it ever since!

I use the XP emulator for a couple of DOS programs only. One example is my Quicken for DOS vintage 1992 bought for a one time price of $30. I have 24 years of data on it and it just keeps going.
Did you create a new outlook account and then import all the messages? Still, I would really like to know why this thing started doing this just today.

Re: Hotmail - must now manually enter password
I believe after I deleted the account in outlook and reinstalled, the messages, calendar stuff, etc. were automatically imported back into it.
Re: Hotmail - must now manually enter password
Thanks, Bob.
However, something changed overnight while my computer was shut off. The Hotmail signin autofill now functions normally, the same as it did for years in the past even though the display seems to be a little different now. I restarted my entire system 3 or 4 times during the day yesterday and a restart did not help yesterday, so it wasn't just today's restart -- I think they fixed something.
