La Parrilla Loca -Chapala Malecon
This place is by the sail and mural on the malecon. My meal consisted of a paper thin T Bone steak with spoiled guacamole and wilted lettuce salad, my girlfriend had the gasoline drenched fish and rice complete with chef's hair in it. My girlfriend didn't eat her meal and I did and I really regret it. I would never go back there even if they paid me, nice place but the food was the worst I've had probably in my life and prices probably highest in the area.

Just had one rum and coke, 68 pesos, 102 temperature, got shot in the butt at Cruz Roja and exam for 150 pesos. 4 days of antibiotics. Ugghhhh

Thanks for the heads up Spencer. I had the tummy bugs last weekend - not too bad but in the bathroom for two days. I called my gastroenterologist in Guad. and he told me what to take and said this time of year it's almost always food contamination. And I am really fussy about where I eat!

This time of year...? Would that be because local restaurants are sitting on excess inventory from the snowbird season and it is expiring?
Re: La Parrilla Loca -Chapala Malecon
I think it's because of the temps, partly, but mostly because they aren't paying enough attention to keeping the food clean and not leaving it out to spoil. Plus, fewer customers and not enough "turn".
We ate at the restaurant in question once shortly after it opened. Windy, dusty buffet breakfast.
Fortunately, we didn't get sick, but haven't gone back.

Great point Gringal. I forgot that the temps are quite high right now and with fewer customers, things made for the day, will sit around a little too long. Sounds like it's a perfect time of the year to learn some new recipes at home........

There's one restaurant here which has good food but has a salad bar without ice or sneeze cover. The salads are prepared for the lunch and sit there until dinner. DUH. I eat off the menu and don't go near that salad bar. One friend who joined us for dinner piled it on with dressing and got the cleanout before two hours were up. We warned him. Stay away from the cheese, the onions, and the creamy dressing . Did he lissen?

Thanks for your honest report. I hope you said something to the Chef or owner.
Don't worry about going back, they won't be in business more than another couple months. People who run restaurants and serve swill like that deserve to go out of business.

Bob,
In this heat if you let a cheese sauce or mayonaise or fish dish sit out without refrigeration it doesn't take too long for bacteria to build up to levels that will make the strongest stomach sick. And lot of restaurant owners recycle the salsa served to your table by putting it back into the main pot so even if they make a new batch and put stuff sitting on the table with it, salsa will go bad. Someone once tested salsa for E coli bacteria and it tested very high in most restaurants and that was in the US.
And yes I eat at home a lot this time of year.
