Re: Cost of living website
There's another factor to "need" and cost of living. It's about adapting to what's available here as opposed to more expensive imported items. When I read a long spiel on TOB about whether Hellman's Mayonnaise is as good as the U.S. fave, I have to wonder. Same with just about all food items. Superlake exists and prospers because of foreigners' "needs", and good for them to have "found a need and filled it". For me, Hellman's is fine, but I'm really going to miss the great French jams they carry if I can't find them where I'll be moving.

I could always put together a package for you and send it on to your new location. Some things are little treasures in the course of a day.
And I gotta say for the record, that I don't have to buy nearly as many food items to bring back from Canada. Sheets, I will be bringing back. Mine have holes now but only the bottom sheet... so I can buy those separately. It does cheese me that I can only buy entire sets here.

Awww, thanks. Maybe I can persuade the local grocer to carry them. We learned of the jams from French Canadian visitors who shared some. This is real quality all-fruit jam with seriously intense flavor.
We buy our CA king sheets from a discount online retailer in the U.S. and can buy tops and bottoms separately.

Now there's a thought. Mind sharing the link or name? I could use Hugh for transport. Sheets are heavy so it's either pay Hugh or pay the airline for over weight luggage.

Since we never go NOB (only one quick trip back in 2010 for a funeral) we shop online for anything we can't find here.
We have things shipped to our door. You might want to compare the cost of shipping with Hugh's charge.
Since we needed the CA King size, we used this one, and they do sell separate tops and bottoms:

We have also used Overstock.com, but you would need to contact them about separate tops and bottoms. Good selection and prices.
Amazon also has links.

Found what I wanted on Amazon.com and they also have separate packs of flat white sheets which I have used in the past to make instant curtains. They can be dyed any colour that you want.
6 pack fitted white King sheets... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00XK9BZ8E/?coliid=I1E5B9DMQDZ6TX&colid=9UO437NK1P8L&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it
6 pack (also 24 pack available) flat white king sheets... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00XK9CJ2K/?coliid=I1OTOQ5KK8KYU1&colid=9UO437NK1P8L&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it
Great pricing too.

Ohh I am going to take 4 sets of those with about a dozen regular size pillow cases to someplace to sell soon. We didn't like the soft microfiber feel it was too much like flannel and a tad limp on the bed.

Yep, if it goes rotten we'll have to throw it away.

That's a rather odd statement. The cost of living in the US varies a lot, depending on what part of the country you live in, as it does in most large countries. If you think the US is expensive, try Europe. Way more expensive.

Re: Cost of living website
Yes, the west coast of Canada has become outrageous. I sold the house I had owned and lived in for 20 years on Vancouver Island in 2010- I made a good profit on it, as I had bought it for $27,000CAN (it was a real fixer-upper) and sold it for $250,000. But if I had been able to afford to hang onto it for another 10 years, it would have fetched at least double that. I could never afford to buy back in there.
When I was up there last summer, a small bag of groceries usually ran about $40-$50. And that's not a bag full of gourmet food, just normal stuff.

Re: Cost of living website
My stepson and daughter-in-law live in Newmarket, Ontario which is north of Toronto. She was telling me they went grocery shopping for just a week's worth of ordinary groceries and it recently cost them $300.00. She was going to buy some sliced turkey for lunches... 12 slices was $16.00... they did without.
