UPS delivery
I'm expecting a UPS delivery and I see it is in GDL today with a note saying I need to pay duties or taxes. Will they still deliver it and collect at my door or do I need to go to UPS. Anyone know?
Re: UPS delivery
Usually depends as if there is a permission needed you need to go, if it is small they have collected at door in the past.

It is just a used pool cue that the sender put a value of $75.00 on so I assume the taxes shouldn't be that much. Will they tell me if I have to go there?
Re: UPS delivery
Ah a used pool cue, well my friend if it has wood in it then you need a special permit to import wood. FYI it could be a bit tricky, email me the info.

Re: UPS delivery
No it wasn't a wood issue. It was just taxes. It was delivered that same day with $200 pesos owing, payable to the driver.
Re: UPS delivery
This morning we picked up a small parcel from DHL office in Ajijic, sent from overseas
by a family member.
Imagine our surprise to find that the total charges amounted to 698.35 pesos on this small delivery.
Of course the sender had no idea that we'd be stuck with a bill, so we paid up, it was either that or the parcel would be returned to the sender.

Re: UPS delivery
I think those charges can be translated into:
Whatever We Damn Feel Like,
Just Because and
Why Not?
Yes, I too would say, "Thank you so very much and please do not ever do that again."

Re: UPS delivery
If an item is not manufactured under the NAFTA or any other trade agreement guideline's then it can be subjected to import duties along with the IVA taxes. Many countries don't bother with duties and taxes on items with a declared value less than about $75 usd however I heard lately that Mexican customs is going after just about everything. My used pool cue was made in Canada so it wasn't subject to import duties however it had a declared value of $75 so they charged IVA against that value.

I remember talking with you on your way up to DHL to pick up the parcel. You said that your relative told you that you'd like the gift. Did you? I hope it was worth the extra cost.

Re: UPS delivery
Hi Sue, small world! Well the contents included two very good quality Brazilian Games
items, a T-shirt, and a zippered jacket. They were sent from the U.A.Emirates, and bought in San Paulo.Brazil. Other item is a small "Roku" box of "300,movies and T.V.episodes 3,000 + streaming channels"
Being tech-challenged, I haven't a clue what to do with it!
I know these items were all very expensive judging from the declared value, so we will
just shut up, and appreciate the thought. hehe.

I'm sure you could find someone who can hook up the Roku for you and show you how to use it. They sound like great gifts!

Would there be duty on 3 pairs of eyeglasses made in China (though that doesn't show) and shipped FedEx from New York?
Thanks.

Re: UPS delivery
Chinese products are not duty free however it depends on the value and the mood of the customs agents that day as to whether they charge duty and taxes, or not.
BTW.....when the shipper fills out the customs documents they have to put the country of manufacture. If it doesn't show on the item or packaging have them put Canada or the USA.
