Bait - live worms?
Is it possible to buy worms or night-crawlers around Lake Chapala? Better still, can they be dug up or collected on rainy nights?

I see the odd worm around here during the rainy season. Never seen them or any other live bait for sale other wise.
Maybe find someone with a compost pile.

My uncle used a coat hanger, straightened it out, made a handle for it and got an extension cord to plug it in. If there are any worms within 10 ft. they will come wiggling out of the ground in record time and make easy pickins'. But first be sure to unplug it.
