I am posting this for a friend so if you know any way you can find a home for the dog ASAP call Dean or Dave at (387) 761 -0795 or email:

We have a golden retriever that needs a new home. He's middle aged and mellow.
He's perfectly behaved in the house. He doesn't jump on the furniture, beg for
food, or bark. He happily let our Springer spaniel be the alpha dog and he
learned to be gentle with our cat. He was exceptionally handsome, as you can see
in the photo section, before we had a groomer miscommunication last week. He
looks more like a lab now, but he'll grow out again soon, I'm sure.

His handicap is that he's terrified of cohetes and our house in the village is
ground zero for cohetes. He doesn't just hide in the closet like our other dog.
He's been destructive trying to get in and out of the house when we're not here
to the point of injuring himself. When we are at home he's afraid, but he
merely nestles between my chair and the end table for comfort. We can't predict
when there will be cohetes shot off in the neighborhood and the intensity of the
noise here makes our home unsuitable for him.

You may know that this is Sunny's dog, Rudy, and we agreed to foster him while
she's in California for the Summer, but after a discussion we've determined that
the dog either has to be re-homed or put down. His history with fear is the
reason Sunny acquired the dog from another family and may be the reason for his
bad hip. We assume that he managed to escape from his former home and was hit
by a car. We have been treating the hip with an anti-inflammatory and
glucosamine and he seems comfortable, but recently we haven't been able to walk
him because he's not putting weight on the one rear leg.

I'm hoping that someone on Westenders can help us with this sweet heart of a
dog. He really deserves a happy, stress free life.

I don't know if this will help but I was at the Shelter buying dog food today & they're selling drops you put in pets' water if they're afraid of noise. It takes about a week but this may be a solution. I'll get these drops to you tomorrow if you'd like to pass them on for a try. I'll pick up some more for my dogs next week.

Do the drops work for your dogs? Unfortunately he suffers separation anxiety also if the guys caring for him go away. He needs a home with a big yard, which is what his owner had before she returned to Ca. for a few months.

I don't know. I just got the drops today. I thought I'd start it in a week or so because 2 of mine are scared of lightning. I'll give you these to pass along to try. It can't hurt & might be the solution.

Carrie Bean let me know if the drops work. Meggie is afraid of lightning and fire crackers, but just lays there and shakes. Would be nice if the drops work, but the last ones given to me by the vet didn't work.
