Unlocking U.S. cell phones
I know this has probably been discussed somewhere but I'm not finding exactly what I'm looking for.
We have a Droid HTC Incredible cell phone brought down from the States. We need a cell phone for very limited usage, no internet or apps, just to receive or make telephone calls while out and about. We have a "pay-as-you go from Movistar but hate the reliability of their service. It seems to never work. Thought we would try TelCel.
I am reading that TelCel has a "Amiga" plan that is probably what we need but does anyone know if TelCel will be able to unlock the phone?

Go to the TelCel store down the street by Farmacia Cristiana next to Alex'x Pasta Bar. They'll unlock it for you. The alternative is you could simply buy an inexpensive phone to use here. A basic phone will cost very little. BTW, are you sure your phone is locked?

Good question David. I"m just assuming it's locked (and you know what they say about that!). Is there an easy way to tell?
I will take it up to TelCel and ask.

You said you had Movistar, in another phone? If Movistar is in your HTC then it's unlocked. Otherwise just get an Amiga chip for your Movistar phone.

MoviStar is a different phone. Good idea.
