First Visit Feb 2016 what to bring?
The wife and I will be down for our first visit to Ajijic this winter. As a newbie what would be one thing you wished you had brought down from NOB when you came to visit? We should have all the normal stuff covered, but I was looking for advice on that one thing that would have made your first trip even better.
Thanks,

First visit February 2016
Bring a debit cart that has been used in the States and that you know works. Remind bank that you will be in Mexico. Good walking shoes as you will be walking on cobblestones, sunscreen and a hat, a sense of humor.

And your Garmin if you plan on renting a car and exploring beyond the lake.

Some warm clothes ..... it can get real cold. I bought my first and only heater when in Jocotepec

First thing I would suggest, is stopping calling your wife "the wife". LOL.

Good walking shoes, clothing layers because it can get chilly, and room in your suitcase for the stuff you'll want to bring back.

Your camera so you can have something to remember the beauty you will see on your visit.

Would have been much more interesting if he had said "a wife".

Tell "The Wife" to bring a pair of Keen's sandals or like such. Time for comfy shoes that work on the cobblestones which are actually rocks in the street with dirt or sometimes concrete around the rocks. Guys should wear sensible shoes also. Mens hiking sandals work well. Something flexible but tough. Sneakers will work also but hiking sandals work better. This is an instance in life where sensible makes much more sense than good looks. People can fall at first here don't add bad shoes to your problem of walking on the cobbles. We see it all the time.
Welcome when you get here.

Amen to that. Both "the husband" and I have had some very bad falls during our 11 years on the Mexican cobblestones. I miss wearing "cute shoes", but I don't miss the pain. Good sneakers work, but I agree with Zed that hiking sandals work even better.
Bring folding hats, and be sure to wear them. The altitude makes the sun burn you more quickly.
For "the wife": bring the kind of purse that you hang on your body and can hug to it in crowds. There are pick pockets.
Ideally, for both of you, have a money belt for your valuables like your passport and such.
Mainly, have a great time!

We wished for our binoculars and I wished I'd brought a reusable shopping bag out of my home stash.

Earplugs..................you'll thank me when the fiestas are going on! Also, if you have a little room in your suitcase and any clothes that no longer fit, throw them in., they will not go to waste.
Hope you enjoy your visit,

Thank you everyone for the replies, there were some things we had not thought of in the responses. "THE WIFE" says thanks as well.
