blood glucose monitoring system
I'm newly diagnosed diabetic and wondering if I should buy a kit here or when I go home for a visit later in the week. Looking for accuracy and best value on supplies. Would that be here or in the US?

Check Walmart when you go back NOB. The kits run between $ 10 - 20 and the strips are reasonable. Reli-On I believe is the name. More strips you buy (pack 20, 50, 100) the cheaper per strip. They also have a mail-in A1C test for around $ 10 ea.

Thank you. That's a great deal on the A1C test too. I'll be stocking up on supplies.

Get a One Touch Ultra. Check the price at Farmacia Guadalajara before you go NOB, then you'll know which one is less expensive. FG always has the strips and they are not costly.

My mother always received her kit for free through medicare. I do not remember where she got the strips or the insulin, she ordered them from somewhere and got a deal on them too. The supplies all came through the US postal service..

If you are going to be taking insulin, be aware that it tends to be in short supply around here (Guad Farm has not had any for months).
The places that do stock it have radically different prices.
PM if you want more details.

The most costly part of testing your blood is the strips. OneTouch Ultra is a good machine. I have a Contour by Bayer that has accurate results in 5 seconds. The strips can be expensive depending on where you get them. I buy mine through Amazon and they are really cheap. You can many times get a testing machine for free with the strips in a combo pack. If you are concerned about accurate results from different machines, google diabetes society.
