Party at 4
What a party at 4 last night, Dave Truly's 60th. The band was shit hot, the addition of the sax was great. Food and drinks were excellent.Dinner for 60 pesos hard to beat. Unfortunately the staff were overwhelmed and the service was terrible.

That was our experience too! I think we'll avoid the next "party" but not Cuatro.

You'd think the restaurant would have prepared for what was bound to be a large crowd and perhaps have put a buffet or some other "fast serve" together. Ah well. Live and learn.

Nope. BTW, I've given up thinking after living in Mexico for over 10 years. Especially pondering the "why" of many things such as; why the Policia drive around with their lights flashing or why the Transitos never ticket anyone for illegal left turns.

Excellent point, David. The SOMA finally gets to us all: we should accept it gratefully, stop using the words "why" or "should" and be at peace.

You don't have to adopt to adapt, you've only to accept.

Re: Party at 4
Its not just Mexico with the police announcing themselves by running the lights all the time. San Juan Puerto Rico and other Carib nations do the same thing. I thought in San Juan they were coming to get me and bye bye but actually I was in a tourist zone and they wanted to shake my hand and talk to me in English to practice and they said I looked interesting whatever that meant laugh out loud.
I will be back after I take my SOMA pill.

The continuous lights flashing is called "preventive patrol" and practiced in many places around the world and has shown to be very effective. The police in Washington D.C. use the tactic.

Perhaps if they drove thru neighborhoods at night it might be effective. Driving up and down the Caraterra during the daytime seems senseless to me.

I wonder how effective that practice is,it seems to me that it just gives the rateros a heads up and a chance to hide until the patrol passes.Clete wrote:

If you have ever been to Guadalajara (or any other medium to large city here) at night then you would have noticed the practice on many streets. Not solely the carreteras.

IMHO, it's common but not effective.

Common sense. Driving up and down the Caraterra during the day when most crimes are committed in barrios after dark cannot be effective. They need to be where the crimes are committed when they are committed. Duh.

Re: Party at 4
They do it a couple of times a night on my street in SAT, between 10PM and 5AM and it doesn't bother me. The times seem to be random....can't hurt.
