Raw Ginger Root

I have a recipe that calls for some raw ginger root. I have never looked for this before. Is it readily available here?

I have seen it at SuperLake, Walmart, Soriana and my local small market.

Tuesday Mkt usually has the freshest, SuperLake has fresh as well as the raw in a jar in the Oriental section. Wally's World has it most of the time as well.

One of the sellers at the lower end of the Ajijic tiangus this week had some very nice looking fresh ginger.

Bob, try and get the fresh and, obviously after all these years, welcome to the world of GINGER. Fresh 'cause it's fresh and less "hot" on the palate. Enjoy. Why not post the recipe ? Could it have anything to do with chicken wings ? Starting to drool.

I buy it, chop it up can freeze what I don't use and always have it available.

Since I fell in love with ginger beer, I've been making my own. Little known fact:you don't have to peel it. Just grate or slice and go.

Fresh ginger is plump and firm; if it's shriveled or bendy, it's old. (Hmm!) You can break off a small piece and buy only that. The Frugal Gourmet used a ceramic ginger grater, a lovely little tool that grates the pulp but allows the peel to drop off.
