So sorry for Canada, but their defensive lapses early on cost them dearly. Both of England's goals were due to errors by the defense.

Canada's defensive lapses started with the first game of the tournament.
They were lucky to even get in to the quarter finals.
They need defeat to build on (and a new coach).

Congrats to the US team for their victory over Japan to take home the gold.
Re: FIFA World Cup Womens Soccer
They were awesome weren't they? The only nation to win 3 World Cups in Women's Futbol! BTW, only one other player has ever scored a hat trick in a World Cup Final, a member of the England team of 1966.

I was simply amazed that Mexico paid no attention to this tournament given the love for futbol in this country. I didn't see any of these games in the bars or on Telecable.

Likely because it's Women's Futbol and women don't count in this culture. I've been surprised by several NOB friends who are Futbol fans but didn't watch any of the World Cup. My friend who lives in Cali, Colombia (a futbol crazy country) told me that none of it was shown on Colombia TV.

Well that's a friggin shame as I thought the women's tournament was easily as good, if not better, than the men's.

Beg to differ.Times are changing.David wrote:Latino culture.
Examples;Brazil,Costa Rica and Argentina all have female heads of state and there are plenty of women in politics here in Mexico.

Re: FIFA World Cup Womens Soccer
So why didn't they televise it in Mexico then? The Mexicans I asked said they didn't give a crap about women's futbol.
Re: FIFA World Cup Womens Soccer
If Mexico had had a team playing in the finals they probably would have televised it.CanuckBob wrote:So why didn't they televise it in Mexico then? The Mexicans I asked said they didn't give a crap about women's futbol.
I was referring to the comment that "women don't count in this culture".

The women in politics have money. If they don't have money they don't count and they're powerless. Futbol is a sport of ordinary people.

Re: FIFA World Cup Womens Soccer
FIFA doesn't take the Women's tournament too seriously either:
"The U.S. women’s soccer team defeated Japan on Sunday to win the World Cup. For their dominant performance, the team will collect $2 million from FIFA, the international body that runs the tournament.
The championship prize for women pales in comparison to the $8 million in prize money awarded to men’s teams who lose in the first round. Every men’s team was awarded $1.5 million just for participating. "

It's the same in all Women's sports. e.g. PGA vs. LPGA
