In the states I could get one at a lawnmower repair place. Is there one in Chapala?

Suggest as with military vehicles; bypass the key for a (hidden) flip switch.

Any locksmith can remove the key receptacle and make a new key.

For a riding mower - just change the switch. I bet one of those new auto parts places has one that will work and cost little.

Can't resist, did you want to find a new key or a new gardener???  scratch

You might try one of the local locksmiths to make you a new key. That has been done before.
