We hit 400 members today
I was hoping we would hit 400 members before the Anniversary Party and it appears that we did today. A big welcome to our 400th member, Bliss.

Re: We hit 400 members today
Of the 400, how many are active posters?
I remember when I was the Mod over on "That Other" forum we had a couple of thousand registered members and less than 50 ever contributed on a regular basis. This group seems a bit more involved.

Well UJ I think it's because we splintered off from a group that was run by an evil dictator who would even change people's posts to get people down on his level... People aren't afraid to post here....ahhh.....a breath of fresh air. Good going Bobby!

Thanks everyone.
Uncle Jack, we have about 30 regular posters. We have regular visits by about 75% of the members. There are many who are on every day but rarely if ever post anything.

Maybe if you stopped hitting the members there would be more of them ;)

Re: We hit 400 members today
I am one of those regular visitors, but, often I do not post. I have been to the area several times. Would really like to move there. However health reasons forbid that that move and Insurance (health) is unobtainable for my wife (cancer) and myself (heart disease).
Having said that, we do like to visit when we can and really like the area. So I monitor the boards and keep up with what is going on. I hope my "lurking" is not offensive to anyone. We are in our early 70's.

Nothing wrong with "Lurking". Attendance is the important thing.

I say lurk away! I am sorry for your health problems. Come on down and visit - Candice and Bob have some wonderful apartments for rent and a great deal was offered for board members (that includes you) when the apartments are not rented they can be occupied by board members at a ridiculous low daily rate. June through August are wonderful here! It's the slow season and the weather is wonderful - not too hot like up north, if you don't mind a little rain at night.
CONGRATULATIONS BOB!

I think the thing that makes it work is that we're more like a bunch of friends. Nobody telling us what we can or can't talk about. Works for me.

Dawg, too, is pleased at the success so far of this entertaining forum and also wishes success to the other Chapala board on the theory that competition among various boards vying for a finite market improves the performance of all. I also subscribe to and participate in Peter´s All Michoacan Informational Board which is a worthy effort and encourage the rest of you to support him in that endeavor. One needn´t be a resident of Michoacan to enjoy and contribute to that forum as I can attest. Let´s all remember that there is nothing magical nor remarkable about the success of the long established Chapala.Com other than the fact that it has been in business since Methuselah was in daipers. If old and tired were accolades then we would all be worshipping at the feet of Milton Berle and going, "If you think that was funny, what about....."
I, personally, prefer the late, great Henny Youngman as in:
Man gets on elevator on 70th floor and just as he gets on the cable breaks and the elevator plunges to the basement and, as he is lying there a broken man dying, his last words are, "I said up."

Oops! Just as we are leaving to summer at Lake Chapala. Mi Jefa is doing well thanks but I guess we´ll be passing along the way. PM me, however, when your plans are firmed up as we may still be here when you arrive.
We usually leave San Cristóbal during the rainy season which normally starts about mid-May because the rains are copious normally and there is much flooding plus, at 7,000 feet, the city gets quite chilly at times in the summer. Bring a raincoat, light jacket and galoshes. If it gets too nippy in San Cristóbal, it´s only a 45 minute drive down the mountain to Tuxtla Gutierrez at about 1,300 feet where it will be quite warm in all likelihood. A much underrated city, Tuxtla with some very good restaurants.

Arrive 17th, staying with Bela. She'd like to see La Jefe too. Might very well miss you guys, thanks for the tips.
Oh well, see you here amid the heat, dust, and then more dust.

The 17th is certainly too late for us unless Gawd/Yahweh/Jehovah/Allah intervenes and curses our beat up old car. While La Jefa does not always share her schedule with me, I think, perhaps, she will be seeing Bela befoe our departure.
Frankly, it is hard to arouse our sympathy regarding dust in the environment when we have had an unusually wet and damp and cool spring here in the Chiapas Highlands. We´ll take a dunk in the pool back at Lakeside to thwart the dust demons. We´re just glad to still be above ground so we´ll take what we get.
Besides, speaking of dust; around San Cristóbal, April is the season that brings elevated temperatures, severely polluted air from agricultural burnings with their noxious chemical components and prolific bacteria riding on the prevailing winds representing detritus emanating from countless dried-out turds deposited upon milpas and among trees in the forest by the large pool of folks in Chiapas who lack indoor plumbing or even rudimentary outhouses so if you come here before the cleansing effects of the May rains, try not to breath as you walk the streets or you may introduce nasty little inviisible creaures into your gut who will ruin your vacation.
Only Hemingway could make being tied to a commode seem romantic.
