Three Kings day is the gift giving time not Christmas. Agreed more religious than commercial.

I enjoy Christmas here far better than NOB. It's more about getting together with friends and family versus decorating the casa and busting the budget on gifts that no one really needs. Being in retail distribution for 30 years I loathed the Christmas season and never had any time off during it.

I think the difference could be summed up in two words......bacalao and romerito.

We gave up gifts totally for each other for Xmas and Birthdays for many years with no loss in our opinions. We have enough stuff as C.B. says. We use the money to do something nice for the Mexicans in the village or pay for something to be repaired in the village. We rebuilt a sidewalk for a poor person in our neighborhood so they wouldn't have the only bad sidewalk in the neighborhood after we all cleaned things up and patched and painted things. He came out to thank me in his best ironed jeans and the look was worth all the money in the world. Stuff we don't need anymore. A better life for someone is a better use in my opinion.

My best friend had a similar tradition, Zed. She and her husband at that time would go out for dinner on their birthdays, and instead of a gift for the birthday person, they'd find an older couple or a family that seemed as if they could use it and they'd secretly pay for their meal and leave.

In that case, where do you like to eat, and do you think large bald men look particularly downtrodden?
