Good Deed
It makes me feel so good to be in a position where I am able to give!
I was just at the grocery store. There was a four year old kid in a shopping cart. His dad was looking at something on the shelf. I gave the kid a 12 pack of peanut butter cups. He smiled and said "Thank-you". I said "You are welcome!"
I'm still smiling and chuckling......Hope he's not allergic!

There is a young family of 5 that have been hanging out at SuperLake, you can tell these guys are homeless and it is true, they are dirty, not like the other beggers who have homes and possessions.
I feel for them.

They're actually very polite. I give them pesos fairly frequently. I asked some MX friends about a young lady with 3 kids - usually at least one has a runny nose - who shows up at our door on a regular basis now if there is anyplace that will feed them. They said the churches always have food. Not sure how to hook them up. Interestingly the thing she asks for the most is water.

I might be wrong...but I think he was joking... at least that's how I read it. Can you imagine giving a kid a bunch of candy ...off the shelf in a store? As far as the kid's concerned it's a done deal... he said "thank you" the nice man said "you're welcome" ...then Dad comes back and finds the kid covered in chocolate with all that candy he's going to have to pay for.... can you imagine getting it back from the kid? Definitely something one does....when very bored.

Re: Good Deed
I don‘t think there are any Mexicans who are allergic to peanuts. Maybe there were, at one time long ago, but the peanuts won.

Re: Good Deed
There is an old story about something similar - it did not happen to me, but I could easily see it happening to someone else. A man was shopping at the local tienda corner store, in a not too wealthy Mexican neighborhood. Ahead in the line was a young mother, trying to herd two little ones while counting out her coins. One kid was grabbing the candy, whining. The mother was telling him "No!". The man thought he was being kind, and picked up the candy, and offered to pay for it. She stared at him, and said firmly in perfect English "I can afford to pay, I just don't want him eating candy right now - get it?"

I think you missed the little laughing face. But that‘s OK. We don‘t all share the same sense of humor.miendo wrote:My neighbors child is allergic to peanuts and she is Mexican.

Re: Good Deed
This post has taken an un-welcome PC twist. It's no joke, Buddy Bob and I were in a supermarket in Edmonton. I had an impulse. No thought (thot for my Amereican friends), just action.

Re: Good Deed
My kid had serious nut and dairy allergies when young. Luckily he outgrew them.
